Quality Engineering Technician - Polymers
Department: Quality & Reliability
Location: San Carlos/ Hayward
About 1X
We're building humanoid robots that work in home - doing the chores, handling the tasks, and giving people their time back. Simple, but it's not.
To do this right, we have to solve robotics, AI, manufacturing - at the same time, at scale, in a form factor that has to be safe enough to live with your family. If you're inspired by this, you'll thrive here. We've been at this since 2014 and we're at the point where the hard problems are behind us and the hard work is in front of us.
NEO is our flagship - a home robot designed to move, learn, and operate in the real world alongside real people. We're not demoing it - we're shipping it. We're excited to meet you, if this excites you.
If you've spent your career working on problems that matter and want to see them actually reach the world - this is that moment. We're scaling, we're hiring with intention, and we need people who want to build something that will genuinely change how humans spend their time - safely creating abundance for all.
About the Team
The Quality & Reliability team spans Quality, Reliability, Compliance, Failure Analysis, and Test & Validation. Together, we own ensuring 1X products are safe, reliable, compliant, and ready for customers — embedding quality systems, reliability engineering, and regulatory compliance throughout the entire product development lifecycle. Our work touches every phase of how NEO gets built and how it performs in the real world, and we hold the bar that lets the rest of the company ship with confidence.
Your Charter
Own quality on the polymer production line — catching issues early through rigorous process and product audits, containing problems before they escape, and leading the Material Review Board process to ensure nonconforming material is properly investigated, dispositioned, and resolved. You feed production data back into the team so we continuously raise the bar on what leaves the floor.
Key Outcomes
- Production line issues contained rapidly, with documented investigation records, clear escalation paths, and corrective actions that prevent recurrence
- MRB process led end-to-end — nonconforming material segregated, investigated, and dispositioned with thorough documentation and cross-functional alignment
- Process audit compliance tracked across all polymer assembly operations, with non-conformances driven to verified closure
- Emerging trends identified through continuous production data analysis before they result in escapes or customer impact
- Product audit data — destructive pull tests, hardness measurements — consistently collected, reported against acceptance criteria, and used to drive measurable quality improvements
Key Competencies
- Polymer and adhesives expertise: deep hands-on knowledge of adhesive dispensing processes, failure modes, and material behavior in a production context
- Root cause investigator: leads structured investigations into production and process issues, drives containment, and gets to permanent corrective action
- Data analyst: pulls insights from production data using Excel, JMP, or Minitab — finds the trend before it becomes an escape
- Quality practitioner: applies PFMEA, Control Plans, and MRB processes as working tools, not checkbox exercises
- Clear communicator: writes investigation reports and dispositions that others can act on, and escalates decisively when issues exceed scope
Minimum Requirements
- 5+ years working in a polymer or materials production environment — adhesives, fabrics, fibers, or similar
- Hands-on experience with adhesive dispensing processes and their associated failure modes
- Demonstrated experience leading root cause investigations and containment activities on a production line
- Data analysis proficiency in Excel, JMP, or Minitab
- Familiarity with quality methods including PFMEA and Control Plans
- Associate's degree in Materials Science, Chemistry, Manufacturing Technology, or a related field
Preferred Skills
- Experience leading or participating in a formal Material Review Board (MRB) process
- Hands-on experience with mechanical testing: pull testers, Shore hardness gauges, or similar
- Familiarity with a quality management system (QMS) or ISO 9001 environments
- Experience in a high-growth or startup manufacturing environment where processes are actively being developed

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as an Engineering Technician
Get your credentials assessed before applying
An Australian three-year engineering technology degree is generally accepted as equivalent to a U.S. four-year bachelor's degree, but have a credential evaluation ready. Employers and consular officers may request it to confirm your qualification meets specialty occupation standards.
Target employers with active LCA filing history
Search the DOL's Labor Condition Application disclosure data to identify engineering firms that have filed E-3 visa or H-1B visa LCAs for technician roles. This tells you which employers already understand the sponsorship process and are likely to move quickly.
Clarify the degree requirement in job postings
E-3 sponsorship depends on the role qualifying as a specialty occupation. If a job posting says 'bachelor's degree preferred' rather than required, ask the recruiter to confirm the position mandates a degree before investing time in the application.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for the LCA step
The Labor Condition Application must be DOL-certified before your visa interview. Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork so nothing stalls between offer acceptance and your consulate appointment.
Confirm employer E-Verify enrollment before accepting an offer
Federal contractors and some state-regulated engineering firms are required to use E-Verify for employment eligibility. Ask your prospective employer whether they're enrolled before you accept, since E-Verify registration affects your onboarding timeline after visa approval.
Time your consulate appointment around project start dates
E-3 visa appointments at Sydney, Melbourne, and Perth can have varying wait times. Book your appointment as soon as your employer returns the certified LCA, and align your start date with the employer's project schedule rather than committing before you have the appointment confirmed.
E-3 Visa Engineering Technician: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Engineering Technician jobs that offer E-3 visa sponsorship?
Use Migrate Mate to search Engineering Technician roles filtered by E-3 visa sponsorship. Most job boards don't let you filter by visa type, so you end up cold-applying to roles where the employer has never heard of the E-3. Migrate Mate surfaces employers with active sponsorship history, saving you from chasing dead ends.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does an Engineering Technician role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
It depends on how the employer defines the position. A role requiring a bachelor's degree in engineering technology, electronics, or a related discipline qualifies. Roles where any technical background satisfies the requirement, or where an associate degree is the norm, may not meet the specialty occupation standard USCIS applies to E-3 petitions.
How does the E-3 visa compare to the H-1B for Engineering Technician roles?
The E-3 has no lottery and no annual cap, so your employer doesn't need to gamble on a random draw. H-1B registration opens once a year and selection is uncertain. For Engineering Technician roles, the E-3 is available year-round, renews in two-year increments indefinitely, and the employer's sponsorship burden is significantly lower than an H-1B petition.
What happens to my E-3 status if my Engineering Technician role changes significantly?
A material change in job duties, location, or employer requires a new LCA and, in most cases, a new E-3 visa stamp. Promotions to supervisory roles or transfers to a different state can trigger this requirement. Your employer's HR or immigration contact should notify you before any role change takes effect so you can file updated paperwork without a gap in authorized status.
