Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as an Electrical Design Engineer
Get your credentials assessed before applying
Australian three-year engineering degrees are generally accepted as equivalent to a U.S. four-year bachelor's degree, but have a credential evaluation letter ready. Some employers will ask for it before initiating the LCA, and delays here stall the whole timeline.
Target employers with active DOL LCA filings
Search the DOL's Office of Foreign Labor Certification disclosure data for companies that have filed LCAs for electrical engineering roles. Prior filings confirm the employer already understands the E-3 process and won't need educating mid-offer.
Find sponsoring employers through Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to search Electrical Design Engineer roles filtered by E-3 visa sponsorship. The platform surfaces employers with verified sponsorship history so you're not cold-applying to companies that will decline once they hear 'visa required.'
Clarify your PE licensure status early
U.S. employers in regulated sectors, particularly utilities and government contractors, often require or strongly prefer a Professional Engineer license. Your Australian CPEng registration doesn't transfer automatically, so clarify licensing expectations before an offer is on the table.
Confirm the job offer covers prevailing wage requirements
Before the employer files the LCA with the DOL, verify your offered salary meets the prevailing wage for the SOC code and work location. Underpaying relative to the DOL wage level triggers LCA rejection and delays your consulate appointment.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for LCA and consulate prep
Once you have an offer, use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork end-to-end. Electrical engineering roles sometimes span multiple SOC codes, and correct classification at the LCA stage prevents problems at your Sydney, Melbourne, or Perth interview.
E-3 Visa Electrical Design Engineer: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Electrical Design Engineer jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to search for Electrical Design Engineer roles where the employer is open to E-3 sponsorship. The platform filters by visa type so you're only seeing positions from employers who have indicated sponsorship willingness, which saves you from applying to roles where visa requirements will disqualify you late in the process.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does an Electrical Design Engineer role qualify as an E-3 specialty occupation?
Yes. Electrical Design Engineer positions typically require a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a closely related field, which satisfies the USCIS specialty occupation definition. The key is that the job description must require the degree, not merely prefer it. Roles that accept any technical degree without field specificity can face LCA or consulate scrutiny.
How does the E-3 visa compare to the H-1B for Electrical Design Engineers?
The E-3 has no annual lottery and no cap, so you can apply any time of year once you have a job offer. The H-1B visa is capped at 85,000 per year with a randomised lottery, meaning most applicants wait months and may not be selected at all. For Australian electrical engineers, the E-3 is a significantly faster and more predictable path to U.S. employment.
Can I change employers or projects on an E-3 without losing status?
You can change employers, but your new employer must file a fresh LCA with the DOL and you'll need a new E-3 visa stamp if you travel internationally before the change is complete. If you're already inside the U.S., you can begin working for the new employer once the LCA is certified, but consulate processing is required on your next trip out of the country.
