Education Counselor Jobs in Idaho: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a education counselor in Idaho?
You become an education counselor in Idaho by earning a master's degree in school counseling from a state-approved program, then applying for certification through the Idaho State Department of Education. Idaho requires completion of an accredited counselor preparation program and a supervised practicum or internship. Candidates seeking K-12 positions must hold a valid Idaho School Counselor Certificate, which is the standard credential reviewed by hiring districts statewide.
Which companies hire education counselors in Idaho?
Companies currently hiring education counselors in Idaho include Magellan Health, Children's Therapy Place, and Leidos, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Idaho's largest school districts, community colleges, and state-funded workforce programs are consistently among the most active employers for this role.
Which Idaho cities have the most education counselor jobs?
Boise, Nampa, and Meridian have the most education counselor openings in Idaho. Boise anchors the market as the state's largest city and home to major school districts and Boise State University, while Pocatello and Twin Falls draw demand from Idaho State University, regional community colleges, and surrounding district schools that serve growing student populations.
Are there remote education counselor jobs in Idaho?
Yes, but they're rare. Most education counselor roles require on-site presence to work directly with students, families, and school staff. About 10% of education counselor openings tied to Idaho are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and those positions tend to be in college advising, virtual school programs, or administrative coordination rather than traditional K-12 school counseling.
How can I get hired as a education counselor in Idaho with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is to apply for a graduate internship or practicum placement through an Idaho-approved counselor preparation program, which gives you supervised hours required for state certification. Community colleges like the College of Western Idaho and Boise State University's education programs maintain practicum partnerships with area districts. Candidates from adjacent roles such as school social worker, academic advisor, or paraprofessional educator often move into counselor positions as they complete their master's degree, and holding a valid Idaho educator certificate in any area strengthens your application considerably.
Where can I find and apply to education counselor jobs in Idaho?
You can find and apply to education counselor jobs in Idaho on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers across the state. Search the roles that fit your experience level and specialization, then apply directly to the ones that match.
