Job Description
We are seeking to fill two 9-month assistant professor faculty positions within the new PsyD program, beginning in Fall 2027. Housed within the College of Humanities, Education, and Social Sciences, ISU’s Department of Psychology offers a BS and a BA in psychology, a minor in Applied Behavior Analysis, a PhD in Psychological Science, an APA-accredited PhD in Clinical Psychology (scientist-practitioner model), and a new PsyD in Clinical Psychology (located on the ISU Meridian campus). Applicants must have received their degree from an accredited clinical psychology (or closely related discipline) doctoral program and be license-eligible in the State of Idaho. As core members of the department’s PsyD Clinical Training Committee, these faculty members will teach graduate classes, provide clinical supervision, perform service activities, and mentor students in the program. Competitive applicants will have a commitment to excellence in teaching, mentoring, and clinical supervision of graduate students. Clinical expertise with an integrated behavioral health and/or telehealth focus is welcome. These positions can be filled as tenure-track or not tenure-track positions, based on applicant interests. If they are tenure-track, a research component to the workload will be included; if not tenure-track, then a larger teaching component will be included.
These positions are not eligible for new visa sponsorship at this time. Candidates who already hold valid U.S. work authorization may be considered.
Key Responsibilities
These faculty members will serve as core faculty for the PsyD program, teach graduate courses, provide clinical supervision, and mentor graduate students in the program. Research components to the workload will depend on if a tenure-track position is desired.
- Tenure track: it is expected that the faculty member will teach one traditional graduate course per semester (Fall & Spring), with the remaining portions of the workload being dedicated to research, clinical supervision, student mentorship/advising, and other professional service (each equivalent in workload to one course per semester).
- Not tenure track: it is expected that the faculty member will teach two traditional graduate courses per semester (Fall & Spring), with the remaining portions of the workload being dedicated to clinical supervision, student mentorship/advising, and other professional service (each equivalent in workload to one course per semester).
Minimum Qualifications
- PhD or PsyD in Clinical Psychology or a doctorate in a closely related discipline (e.g., Doctor of Behavioral Health, PhD in Counseling Psychology) from an accredited program
- License-eligible in the State of Idaho
Preferred Qualifications
- Commitment to excellence and experience in teaching and mentoring
- Integrated behavioral health and/or telehealth experience/expertise
- For one of the two positions, there is a preference for someone who can teach and supervise graduate students in assessment
Additional Information
- Current curriculum vitae
- A cover letter summarizing research, clinical, and teaching interests
- Graduate transcripts (unofficial is acceptable until position is confirmed)
- Representative publications (up to six)
- Three letters of recommendation (submitted by letter writers to psych@isu.edu)
This position will remain open until it is filled; however, priority consideration will be given to applications received on or before October 1, 2026. Salary will be between $72,000 and $77,250 per year, commensurate with education and experience. Benefits include comprehensive health, dental, and vision; life insurance; disability plan; employee assistance program (EAP); excellent retirement options and company contribution; and generous paid time off/sick leave accrual. All offers of employment are conditional pending the successful completion of a background investigation, provided by HireRight.

Professor Jobs in Idaho: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a professor in Idaho?
Becoming a professor in Idaho typically requires a terminal degree in your field, most commonly a PhD or an MFA for creative disciplines. Idaho does not issue a state-level teaching license for postsecondary faculty, so hiring decisions rest with individual institutions. Community college positions at places like College of Southern Idaho or North Idaho College may consider a master's degree plus substantial professional experience for technical and vocational programs.
Which companies hire professors in Idaho?
Idaho professor roles are posted by Idaho State University, Boise State University, and North Idaho College and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Idaho's public university system and its growing network of community colleges generate the most consistent faculty openings across disciplines.
Which Idaho cities have the most professor jobs?
Pocatello, Boise, and Meridian lead Idaho in professor openings. Boise draws the largest volume as the state's most populous city and home to Boise State University, while Moscow and Pocatello are anchored by the University of Idaho and Idaho State University respectively, making those smaller cities disproportionately active academic hiring markets.
Are there remote professor jobs in Idaho?
Yes, but they're less common than in many fields, since most faculty roles involve in-person instruction, campus committee work, and student interaction. About 20% of professor openings tied to Idaho are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting a modest share of distance-education and fully online program positions. Roles in instructional design, online course development, and certain graduate-level programs are the most likely to offer remote arrangements.
How can I get hired as a professor in Idaho with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path for candidates with limited teaching experience is an adjunct or visiting instructor position, which Idaho's public universities and community colleges regularly post without requiring a full research record. Boise State, the University of Idaho, and Idaho State University all hire adjuncts semester by semester, and those roles often lead to longer-term opportunities. Completing a teaching practicum during your graduate program or building a strong course portfolio significantly strengthens an application for these entry-level faculty appointments.
Where can I find and apply to professor jobs in Idaho?
You can find and apply to professor jobs in Idaho on Migrate Mate, which lists current Idaho faculty openings across institutions and disciplines. Search the roles available, find the positions that match your background and interests, and apply directly through each listing.
