Job Description
The Education Specialist excels in creating tailored schoolwork modifications, guiding families through the educational system to secure appropriate services and plans, and training teachers in the latest best practices. As the primary resource for maintaining current evidence-based strategies, the specialist enhances teacher effectiveness and boosts student achievement. This is accomplished by designing personalized curricula based on each student's individual needs, abilities, and key performance indicators. The specialist advocates for patients and families needing significant support and complex accommodations to access the curriculum. These duties are carried out in collaboration with the School Program Manager and other members of the Children's leadership team.
Experience
- 3 years of experience teaching in a public-school setting
- Proven ability to influence educational teams and facilitate workshops
- Experience with developing and modifying curricula and teaching methods
- Experience and proficiency in analyzing student performance data to inform decisions and improve outcomes
- Experience with academic content standards and educational system requirements at both state and federal levels
Preferred Qualifications
- 2 years of experience teaching in a healthcare/hospital setting
- Public school special education experience and/or state certification
- Skilled in leading Section 504 and Individualized Education Plan (IEP) meetings
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Education
Certification Summary
- Current teaching certification in the state of Georgia
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through American Heart Association (AHA) is required within 30 days of employment

Job Responsibilities
- Conducts research and attends training to remain current with educational best practices.
- Acts as a subject matter expert, providing training to Children's multidisciplinary teams - including providers, nurses, social workers, and case managers - enhancing their understanding of school program services.
- Engages in high-level special education advocacy for patients across all service lines.
- Trains Children's School Program staff to enhance their skills in teaching various curricula through a special education perspective.
- Investigates industry trends and recommends customized learning tools for specific audiences.
- Maintains expertise in evidence-based strategies, integrating best practices into programs to enhance project management and teacher effectiveness.
- Participates in internal and external committees or groups.
- Analyzes data to assess the effectiveness of patients' educational plans and assists teachers in implementing necessary modifications.
- Pursues professional development to broaden knowledge of methodologies and techniques, including teaching quality, change management, and project management.
- Develops formative assessments to evaluate patients' current levels of ability.
- Collaborates with teachers to provide accommodations and modifications to schoolwork based on patients' present levels of ability.
