How do you become a education manager in New York?
Most education manager roles in New York require at minimum a bachelor's degree in education, curriculum design, or a closely related field, with a master's degree preferred for institutional and nonprofit employers. Those working in New York's K-12 public school system often need a New York State teaching certificate or a School Building Leader certification issued by the New York State Education Department. Corporate and nonprofit employers focus more on program management experience and a demonstrated record of instructional design or training leadership.
How much do education managers make in New York?
Education managers in New York earn a median of about $171,400 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $103,590 for the lowest 10% to over $280,850 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire education managers in New York?
Employers hiring education managers in New York right now include New York City Department of Education, VNS Health, and City University of New York, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's concentration of large hospital systems, university networks, and financial services firms means education manager demand stays consistent outside of the traditional academic hiring cycle.
Which New York cities have the most education manager jobs?
Brooklyn, Manhattan, and New York have the most education manager openings in New York. New York City alone drives the majority of listings given its scale of public schools, university campuses, major hospitals, and corporate headquarters, while Buffalo and Albany reflect demand from regional higher education institutions, state government agencies, and healthcare networks concentrated in western and capital-region New York.
Are there remote education manager jobs in New York?
Yes, but they're less common than in purely desk-based fields, since many education manager roles involve on-site program oversight, staff supervision, or in-person instruction. About 14% of education manager openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, with those roles tending to focus on curriculum development, e-learning design, or corporate learning and development functions where physical presence is not required.
How can I get hired as a education manager in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving from a classroom teacher, training coordinator, or instructional aide role into a managerial position, since New York employers strongly value direct instructional experience. Large systems like the New York City Department of Education and SUNY campuses post assistant director and program coordinator roles that serve as stepping stones. Earning a New York State School Building Leader certification or completing a graduate certificate in instructional design signals readiness and gives candidates a competitive edge over those with only classroom credentials.
