Electrical Engineering Intern Jobs in Salt Lake City: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a electrical engineering intern job in Salt Lake City?
The strongest entry point in Salt Lake City is targeting the defense and aerospace contractors clustered near the south valley, the semiconductor and hardware firms along the Wasatch Front tech corridor, and the growing clean energy sector tied to Utah's utility infrastructure. Candidates who have hands-on lab experience, familiarity with PCB design or power systems, and connections through the University of Utah or Utah State engineering programs tend to stand out in this market.
Which companies hire electrical engineering interns in Salt Lake City?
Employers hiring electrical engineering interns in Salt Lake City right now include University of Utah, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and Intermountain Health, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Salt Lake City's mix of defense primes, med-tech companies, and hardware startups means intern openings appear across both large established contractors and fast-growing product firms.
Are there remote electrical engineering intern jobs in Salt Lake City?
Yes, though remote options are limited by nature since most electrical engineering intern roles involve lab work, hardware testing, or on-site equipment. About 50% of electrical engineering intern openings tied to Salt Lake City are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, concentrated in roles focused on simulation, firmware, or design review work that doesn't require physical lab access.
How can I get a electrical engineering intern job in Salt Lake City with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Salt Lake City is applying to co-op and intern programs run by defense contractors and utility companies in the south valley, which regularly hire students without prior industry experience. Lateral moves through university research labs at the University of Utah and volunteer work with Salt Lake City's maker and robotics communities also build the hands-on portfolio that local hardware employers look for when evaluating first-time applicants.
