Tips for Your Electrical Estimator Job Search
Quantify your bid volume on your resume
List the annual dollar value of bids you've managed or contributed to, the project types you've estimated, and the software you used. Hiring managers screen for candidates who've worked at relevant project scales, so specifics beat vague descriptions every time.
Highlight proficiency in estimating software
Call out your experience with tools like Accubid, Trimble, or Bluebeam in a dedicated skills section. Many job postings screen for specific platforms before reading the rest of your resume, so burying this in a job description paragraph means you'll get filtered out.
Target listings by project type and delivery method
Filter openings by the construction delivery method the employer uses, such as design-build, design-bid-build, or EPC. Your takeoff and bid-tab experience in one method doesn't always translate directly, so matching on project delivery type sharpens your fit from the first line.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists electrical estimator openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Prepare a sample scope-of-work walkthrough
Interviewers at electrical contractors frequently ask you to walk through how you'd estimate a specific project type. Practice narrating your takeoff process aloud, including how you handle allowances, labor burden, and subcontractor quotes, before your first screen call.
Negotiate on base using total project exposure
When discussing compensation, anchor your ask to the total value of bids you've owned, not just your years of experience. Estimators who can show they've independently managed large bids command higher base offers than those who cite tenure alone.
Electrical Estimator Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most electrical estimators?
The companies hiring the most electrical estimators right now include Jobot, Rosendin Electric, and Turner Construction Company, with the largest share of openings in California, Texas, and Arizona, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Demand tends to concentrate at mid-size to large electrical contractors with active commercial or industrial project pipelines.
How many electrical estimator jobs are remote?
About 7% of electrical estimator openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting that most estimation work is office-based and tied to project site coordination. The sub-areas most likely to offer remote flexibility are takeoff and quantity surveying roles at national contractors where site visits are handled by a separate field team.
How do you become an electrical estimator?
Most electrical estimators start in the field as electricians or project engineers, building hands-on knowledge of labor hours and material costs before moving to an estimating desk. From there, learning takeoff software, studying NEC code applications, and shadowing senior estimators on live bids accelerates the transition. Certifications from organizations like ASPE can strengthen your candidacy when you're ready to apply for dedicated estimating roles.
Can you get hired as an electrical estimator with little or no experience?
Yes, some electrical contractors hire junior or apprentice estimators who come from an electrician apprenticeship or a construction management program. Your strongest assets at that stage are field experience with conduit, panel work, or service installation, since you already understand labor complexity in ways a pure office candidate does not. Targeting smaller contractors who train in-house gives you the best entry point.
What does the electrical estimator interview process look like?
The process typically starts with a phone screen covering your estimating software experience and the types of projects you've bid. A hiring manager interview follows, where you'll often walk through your estimating workflow on a hypothetical project. Some employers add a practical takeoff exercise using a set of drawings before extending an offer, particularly for mid-level and senior roles.
Where can I find and apply to electrical estimator jobs?
You can find and apply to electrical estimator jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from across the United States. Find roles that match your experience and project specialization, then apply directly to each listing from the same page.
