Position Summary

The Electrical Construction Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for commercial, industrial and/or residential electrical construction projects. This position reviews project plans, specifications, and bid documents to determine labor, material, equipment, subcontractor, and overhead costs. The Estimator works closely with project managers, operations teams, vendors, and clients to ensure bids are comprehensive, competitive, and aligned with company objectives.

Key Responsibilities

• Review drawings, specifications, contracts, and bid documents to determine project requirements.
• Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for electrical systems including power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, low/high voltage, communications, and specialty systems.
• Develop complete project cost estimates including labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, permits, and indirect costs.
• Solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotations.
• Prepare bid proposals, budgets, and scope summaries.
• Analyze project risks, opportunities, and constructability concerns.
• Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and client meetings as required.
• Coordinate with project managers and field personnel to validate production rates and labor assumptions.
• Maintain estimating databases, labor units, and historical cost information.
• Review completed projects to compare actual costs against estimated costs and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Assist with value engineering efforts and alternate pricing requests.
• Ensure estimates comply with company standards, industry practices, and contract requirements.
• Support negotiation activities and project handoff to operations teams following contract award.

Required Qualifications

• Associate's degree, technical training, or equivalent experience in Electrical Construction, Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
• 3-7+ years of experience in electrical construction estimating, project management, field supervision, or related electrical trade experience.

• Strong understanding of electrical systems, construction methods, and National Electrical Code (NEC) requirements.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
• Proficiency with estimating software such as McCormick, ConEst, Trimble, or similar platforms.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
• Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and organizational abilities.
• Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously.

Preferred Qualifications

• Journeyman Electrician License or electrical trade background.
• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related discipline.
• Experience estimating commercial, industrial, healthcare, education, or data center projects.
• Knowledge of Bluebeam, AutoCAD, or Revit.
• Experience with design-build and design-assist delivery methods.
