Job Summary

Alpine Electric is seeking an experienced Electrical Design-Build Estimator | Preconstruction Manager to lead estimating and preconstruction efforts for electrical projects typically ranging from $3 million to $12 million.

This is a senior, hands-on estimating and budgeting position - not a traditional electrical design-engineering role. The position focuses on conceptual and detailed estimating, design-assist, value engineering, constructability, means and methods, procurement and project setup.

The successful candidate must be able to develop reliable electrical budgets when design information is incomplete, establish appropriate estimating assumptions and conceptual layouts, identify scope and constructability risks, and translate preconstruction decisions into a well-defined project after award.

Duties

• Prepare conceptual, schematic, design-development and detailed electrical estimates for commercial and multifamily construction projects.
• Develop electrical budgets from limited architectural, civil, structural and MEP information when complete electrical construction documents are not available.
• Perform detailed quantity takeoffs and estimates from 50%, 90% and issued-for-construction documents.
• Develop estimating means and methods, including conceptual layouts, routing, quantities and installation assumptions necessary to establish a complete electrical budget.
• Estimate site and underground electrical, utility services, medium-voltage systems, transformers, switchgear, main services, power distribution, feeders, branch circuitry, lighting and controls, emergency power, fire alarm, telecommunications/data, security/access-control infrastructure and other low-voltage systems.
• Develop labor, material, equipment, subcontractor and vendor costs and maintain current knowledge of pricing, labor productivity and market conditions.
• Prepare scopes of work and identify scope gaps, exclusions, qualifications, coordination issues and project risks.
• Perform design-assist and value-engineering analyses and recommend cost-effective alternative systems, equipment and installation approaches.
• Participate directly in preconstruction meetings with owners, general contractors, architects, engineers, utilities, subcontractors and vendors; communicate and defend budgets, assumptions and VE recommendations.
• Develop bid packages, solicit vendor and subcontractor pricing, level bids, negotiate scope and pricing, and recommend awards.
• Identify long-lead electrical equipment and procurement risks; develop purchasing recommendations for major equipment and materials.
• Following award, assist with procurement, buyout and project setup, and provide a clear turnover of estimating assumptions, scope, quotations, purchasing strategy and budget information to the project team.
• Report directly to Alpine Electric ownership and work collaboratively in a team environment as a senior individual contributor.

Required Qualifications

· Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) - required.

· Minimum 5 years of relevant electrical estimating, preconstruction or electrical construction experience.

· Strong knowledge of commercial and multifamily electrical construction.

· Demonstrated ability to estimate from both incomplete conceptual information and completed construction documents.

· Thorough understanding of electrical construction means and methods, including underground, medium-voltage, power-distribution and low-voltage systems.

· Ability to interpret architectural, structural, civil and MEP drawings as they relate to electrical scope.

· Strong knowledge of electrical equipment, materials, labor productivity and installation methods.

· Ability to identify missing scope and develop reasonable, defensible estimating assumptions.

· Strong analytical, mathematical, organizational, written and verbal communication skills.

· Ability to manage multiple estimates and deadlines and interact professionally with owners, contractors, design professionals, vendors and utilities.

Pay: $150,000.00 - $200,000.00 per year
