Have you ever heard of Demand Control Kitchen Ventilation (DCKV)?

DCKV is the process of measuring the level of cooking activity in commercial kitchen hoods and modulating the speed of the associated exhaust and supply fans to be used only as needed. By adjusting these units, these commercial kitchens save a tremendous amount of energy in their electrical, heating, and cooling usage.

KES Technicians perform full installations, service, and repairs of our DCKV system and other energy efficient solutions in commercial kitchens.

It's a unique career that combines electrical, controls, and problem-solving. Every project is different, and no two days are the same.

KES Technicians will work together in teams of two, or individually to accomplish these tasks on each jobsite. Electrical Journeyman’s license is required, please be prepared to submit it upon request.

What You'll Actually Do (Key Responsibilities)

This is the full job — no surprises on day one:

• Installing various sensors directly into the kitchen hoods (drilling into stainless steel).
• Installing Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) to modulate the associated exhaust fans along with the proper power wiring (120V/1), (208V/3), (460V/3) as needed.
• Installing and wiring new fan motors as needed.
• Installing and wiring new exhaust fans as needed, and other associated low voltage wiring.
• Program and commission the DCKV system and train the customer on functionality and usage.
• Show up sharp and on time
• Communicate effectively with other trades on site: controls, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and more
• Maintain professional job-site etiquette and follow OSHA safety guidelines
• Review job specifications, scope of work, submittals, blueprints, and safety requirements
• Travel nationwide; may involve 3 weeks on the road followed by 1 week off, depending on project and customer requirements
• Take proper care of company-provided tools, vehicles, and test instruments
• Work is primarily overnight shift, with OT and weekends as needed. Due to extensive travel, weekly OT is very common.

What It Takes (Qualifications)

• Electrical Journeyman’s license.
• 21 years or older with a high school diploma or GED
• Excellent driving record — you'll be trusted with a company vehicle
• Able to pass a background check and drug screen
• A strong desire to learn and grow your career.
• Ability to travel nationwide for weeks at a time
• Controls experience preferred but not required.
• Good mechanical and mathematical aptitude
• Self-motivated with a desire to grow — strong work ethic, high self-accountability, and integrity
• Excellent time management, critical thinking, and organization skills
• Works well under pressure in a fast-paced environment
• Command of the English language, both written and verbal
• OSHA 10 – Construction Safety & Health online certificate before starting employment (don't have it? You can complete it online before onboarding — we'll point you to it)

The Physical Side (Physical Requirements)

This is a real field job — active, hands-on, and on the move. You should be able to:

• Lift approximately 50 lbs regularly, with a maximum unassisted lift of around 65 lbs
• Comfortable working in tight spaces
• Comfortable working in active commercial kitchens
• Safely work from heights on step ladders, extension ladders, and ladders of various heights up to 40 feet
• Walk comfortably on or near active construction sites — the typical technician logs about 6,000 steps a day (your smartwatch will love this job)
• Use both hands and feet fully, with full vision and hearing
• Wear PPE throughout the workday: hard hat, safety vest, eye protection, steel-toed work boots, and company uniform
• Safely drive a commercial vehicle
