Elementary School Teacher Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a elementary school teacher in Texas?
To become an elementary school teacher in Texas, you must earn a bachelor's degree and complete an approved educator preparation program, either through a traditional university or an alternative certification program recognized by the Texas Education Agency. You then pass the required Texas Examinations of Educator Standards exams for your certification area and apply for your teaching certificate through the Texas Education Agency. Fingerprint-based background clearance is also required before the certificate is issued.
How much do elementary school teachers make in Texas?
Elementary school teachers in Texas earn a median of about $62,760 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $48,500 for the lowest 10% to over $73,570 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire elementary school teachers in Texas?
Employers hiring elementary school teachers in Texas right now include Spring Independent School District, Austin Independent School District, and ALDINE INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's size and its mix of large urban districts, rapidly growing suburban systems, and expanding charter networks mean openings appear consistently throughout the year rather than only during the traditional summer hiring season.
Which Texas cities have the most elementary school teacher jobs?
Houston, Austin, and Spring have the most elementary school teacher openings in Texas. Houston and Dallas-Fort Worth lead because of their massive independent school districts and dense charter school ecosystems, while San Antonio's steady population growth and the presence of large employers like Northside ISD and San Antonio ISD drive strong hiring there as well.
Are there remote elementary school teacher jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. About 0% of elementary school teacher openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting that most elementary instruction requires in-person presence with young learners. The portion of roles that do appear remotely tend to be in virtual charter schools or in curriculum development, instructional coaching, and education technology positions attached to school systems.
How can I get hired as a elementary school teacher in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is enrolling in a Texas alternative certification program, which allows candidates without a traditional education degree to teach while completing certification requirements. Large Texas districts like Dallas ISD and Houston ISD run their own grow-your-own and teacher residency programs that pair candidates with mentor teachers. Starting as a paraprofessional, instructional aide, or substitute teacher within a district builds classroom experience and puts candidates directly in front of hiring principals when full-time positions open.
Where can I find and apply to elementary school teacher jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to elementary school teacher jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings tied to Texas school districts, charter networks, and private institutions.
