Emergency Medicine Nurse Practitioner Jobs in Hawaii: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a emergency medicine nurse practitioner in Hawaii?
To become an emergency medicine nurse practitioner in Hawaii, you must complete an accredited master's or doctoral nursing program with an acute care or emergency focus, pass a national certification exam such as the AGACNP-BC or ENP-C, and obtain licensure through the Hawaii Board of Nursing. Hawaii does not participate in the NP Compact, so a state-specific license is required for anyone practicing in Hawaii, even if licensed elsewhere.
How much do emergency medicine nurse practitioners make in Hawaii?
Emergency medicine nurse practitioners in Hawaii earn a median of about $135,570 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $106,450 for the lowest 10% to over $174,350 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire emergency medicine nurse practitioners in Hawaii?
Companies currently hiring emergency medicine nurse practitioners in Hawaii include The Queen's Medical Center, Voyage Health, and American Traveler, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Hawaii's island geography means most large-volume hiring is concentrated within integrated health systems serving both urban Honolulu and rural neighbor-island communities.
Which Hawaii cities have the most emergency medicine nurse practitioner jobs?
The cities with the most emergency medicine nurse practitioner openings in Hawaii are Honolulu, Kapaa, and Wailuku. Honolulu dominates as the state's primary urban center and home to its largest hospital systems, while Hilo and Kailua-Kona reflect growing demand driven by expanding neighbor-island health networks and increasing year-round resident and visitor populations that require robust emergency care capacity.
Are there remote emergency medicine nurse practitioner jobs in Hawaii?
Yes, but they're rare. About 0% of emergency medicine nurse practitioner openings tied to Hawaii are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting the hands-on, in-person nature of emergency clinical work. The portions of the role most compatible with remote work include telehealth triage, post-visit follow-up consultations, and some administrative or care coordination functions within larger health systems.
How can I get hired as a emergency medicine nurse practitioner in Hawaii with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to new-graduate NP residency or fellowship programs run by large Hawaii systems such as The Queen's Health System and Hawaii Pacific Health, which periodically offer structured transition-to-practice programs in acute and emergency care. Nurses already working in Hawaii emergency departments have a strong advantage when moving into NP roles, and holding an active Hawaii NP license with prescriptive authority before applying significantly strengthens a new-graduate candidacy.
Where can I find and apply to emergency medicine nurse practitioner jobs in Hawaii?
You can find and apply to emergency medicine nurse practitioner jobs in Hawaii on Migrate Mate, which lists current Hawaii openings from employers actively hiring. Search the listings for roles that match your experience level and specialty focus, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
