Job Description
As the Director of Engineering for Xplor’s Laundry SaaS business unit, you will be responsible for the delivery, quality and scalability of the software platforms serving the North American laundry and dry-cleaning market. In this role, you will lead engineering teams focused on new product development, platform reliability and technical debt reduction. You will also be responsible for the release and support engineering function with the goal of continual improvement in the customer experience.
Location: Salt Lake City or Mountain Time Zone
Key Areas of Responsibility
Delivery & Technical Performance
- Deliver the product roadmap on schedule by improving existing development processes and building new ones that increase throughput and predictability
- Raise platform reliability and performance through disciplined engineering practices — uptime, latency, incident reduction and faster mean time to recovery
- In addition to supporting SaaS product delivery, build and maintain the integrated payments capabilities, ensuring secure, compliant and highly available transaction processing
- Own release management, QA and support engineering for Laundry SaaS solutions, reducing defect escape rates and improving customer satisfaction
- Partner with Product to shape roadmap priorities and technical trade-offs necessary to deliver commercial targets while maximizing customer satisfaction
- Continuously improve engineering efficiency by driving higher developer productivity through AI-assisted development practices, optimizing cloud infrastructure cost per customer, and accelerating software delivery.
- Report on engineering performance with clear KPIs, velocity, release frequency, uptime, defect rates and cloud spend, to hold the plan accountable to targets
Strategy & Vision
- Shape the technical vision, AI strategy and architecture roadmap for Laundry SaaS in North America, collaborating closely with Product and Security leaders to identify platform investments, AI opportunities, technical differentiation and the modernization roadmap that supports them.
- Own the engineering plan and budget for Laundry SaaS (working collectively with Finance). This includes annual headcount and vendor planning, cloud cost management and in-year quarterly reforecasting of delivery commitments.
- Define and execute the AI engineering strategy, identifying opportunities to leverage Generative AI and intelligent automation to improve customer experience, engineering productivity, and product innovation.
Collaboration & Leadership
- Build strong working relationships across Product, Support and Customer Success so the engineering plan is aligned to and accountable for in-year commercial targets
- Act as the technical voice for Laundry SaaS — rally internal stakeholders and outsourced development partners around delivery priorities and deliver against plans
- Coach engineering managers and senior engineers, building upon each one's strengths and providing support to address their development areas — lead by example
- Have a bias to action (“Move with Purpose” Principle) — being data driven but also knowing when to move
- Be a culture champion, intentionally bring our “Create Lasting Communities” value to life, both in how we build for customers and in making Xplor a fun place to work in a hybrid environment
- Build an AI-first engineering culture by driving adoption of AI-assisted development practices, coaching teams on emerging AI capabilities, and establishing repeatable engineering standards.
Qualifications
- Ability to work in a hybrid model and willing to spend time in the Draper, Utah office to build a strong SaaS engineering culture
- 5+ years of experience leading engineering teams at a B2B SaaS technology company, including managers
- Experience building multi-tenant SaaS products in laundry, field services or an adjacent SMB vertical
- Proven record of accomplishment in shipping SaaS releases predictably at a sustained cadence
- Proven record of improving platform uptime, performance and defect rates in a production SaaS environment
- Proven record of improving engineering efficiency — higher developer productivity, lower cloud cost and reduced technical debt
- Experience running SaaS software development, QA and DevOps functions end to end
- Experience scaling SaaS architecture and the agile operating cadence behind it
- Strong track-record of hiring and developing engineering talent and managing outsourced or vendor partners
- Demonstrated experience in building customer centric software grounded in SaaS user feedback and telemetry
- Hands-on technical leader and a strong strategic thinker, comfortable in a modern cloud SaaS stack
- Experience implementing AI-assisted software development practices using modern AI coding assistants and Generative AI technologies to improve engineering productivity, software quality, and delivery predictability.
- Knowledge of Large Language Models (LLMs), AI agents, prompt engineering, and AI-enabled software development workflows, with the ability to identify practical business applications.

Engineering Director Jobs in Utah: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a engineering director in Utah?
Most engineering directors in Utah reach the role by progressing from individual contributor to senior engineer, then engineering manager, before stepping into a director position. A bachelor's degree in engineering or computer science is the standard baseline, and many Utah employers in defense or semiconductor manufacturing prefer a master's degree. Utah does not require a state-issued license specifically for the engineering director title, though roles involving professional engineering sign-off may require a Utah Professional Engineer license issued through the Utah Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing.
How much do engineering directors make in Utah?
Engineering directors in Utah earn a median of about $161,120 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $113,080 for the lowest 10% to over $221,400 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire engineering directors in Utah?
Employers hiring engineering directors in Utah right now include Quanta Services, Quanta Infrastructure Solutions, and ENFRA, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Utah's concentration of defense contractors, semiconductor fabs, and high-growth software companies means demand for engineering directors is spread across both large established employers and well-funded technology scale-ups headquartered in the Salt Lake Valley and Utah Valley.
Which Utah cities have the most engineering director jobs?
The cities with the most engineering director openings in Utah are Salt Lake City, Lehi, and Delta. Salt Lake City drives much of the volume through its dense cluster of tech company headquarters, defense contractors, and large healthcare systems, while Provo and Orem benefit from the University of Utah research corridor, Brigham Young University talent pipelines, and a high concentration of software and semiconductor firms that have established engineering leadership teams in Utah Valley.
Are there remote engineering director jobs in Utah?
Yes, though they are less common than in purely software-focused roles because many Utah engineering director positions involve on-site oversight of hardware, manufacturing, or defense programs. About 54% of engineering director openings tied to Utah are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and the remote share skews toward software platform and cloud infrastructure director roles rather than positions in semiconductor fabrication, defense systems, or physical product development.
How can I get hired as a engineering director in Utah with little or no experience?
The most realistic path for someone without prior director experience is to move into an engineering manager or senior technical lead role first, then build toward a director promotion internally. Large Utah employers such as Northrop Grumman, Micron Technology, and Amazon Web Services in Salt Lake Valley run rotational leadership and high-potential engineering programs that place strong individual contributors on a management track. Earning a Professional Engineer license through the Utah Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing or completing a part-time MBA at the University of Utah or Brigham Young University strengthens candidacy for director-level roles significantly.
Where can I find and apply to engineering director jobs in Utah?
You can find and apply to engineering director jobs in Utah on Migrate Mate, which lists current Utah openings updated continuously. Search the roles available, find the ones that match your background and preferred location, and apply directly to each one that fits.
