General Manager Jobs in Utah: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a general manager in Utah?
Most general managers in Utah enter through a combination of a bachelor's degree in business, management, hospitality, or a related field and several years of progressively responsible supervisory roles. Utah does not require a state-issued license for most general manager positions. Employers in hospitality may expect a Utah food handler or food manager certification through the Utah Department of Health and Human Services, while healthcare-adjacent management roles may look for relevant operational credentials.
How much do general managers make in Utah?
General managers in Utah earn a median of about $97,850 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $44,100 for the lowest 10% to over $213,270 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire general managers in Utah?
Companies currently hiring general managers in Utah include Cafe Zupas, SIXT, and Elase, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Utah's mix of corporate headquarters, large retail chains, and an expanding hospitality sector means hiring is consistent throughout the year rather than seasonal.
Which Utah cities have the most general manager jobs?
Salt Lake City, Lehi, and Sandy account for the largest share of general manager openings in Utah. Salt Lake City drives the most volume as the state's commercial and corporate hub, while Provo's growth in technology and retail and Ogden's manufacturing and distribution base keep those metros active for operations-focused management roles throughout the year.
Are there remote general manager jobs in Utah?
Yes, but they're rare. General manager roles are inherently on-site because they require direct oversight of staff, facilities, and daily operations. About 0% of general manager openings tied to Utah are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those tend to be regional or district-level positions where travel replaces a fixed office rather than fully desk-based arrangements.
How can I get hired as a general manager in Utah with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving into an assistant manager or shift supervisor role and building toward the general manager title over time. Large Utah retail and hospitality employers run structured management trainee programs that accept candidates without prior management experience. Employers like Harmons Grocery, Utah's regional hotel groups, and national chains with heavy Utah footprints regularly promote from department lead and key holder positions. Completing a food manager certification or a business management certificate from Utah Valley University or Salt Lake Community College strengthens any application.
Where can I find and apply to general manager jobs in Utah?
