Engineering Director Jobs in Florida: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a engineering director in Florida?
Most engineering directors in Florida reach the role by first earning a bachelor's or master's degree in an engineering discipline, then accumulating years of hands-on engineering and project leadership experience. For roles in civil, structural, or public infrastructure, holding a Professional Engineer license issued by the Florida Board of Professional Engineers strengthens candidacy significantly and is often required. From there, progression typically moves through senior engineer and engineering manager roles before reaching the director level.
How much do engineering directors make in Florida?
Engineering directors in Florida earn a median of about $170,740 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $116,900 for the lowest 10% to over $251,590 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire engineering directors in Florida?
Employers hiring engineering directors in Florida right now include Kaufman Rossin, Quanta Infrastructure Solutions, and Atwell, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Florida's concentration of aerospace, defense, and large-scale infrastructure firms means many of these employers maintain long-term, recurring demand for engineering leadership rather than one-time openings.
Which Florida cities have the most engineering director jobs?
Tampa, Orlando, and Miami have the most engineering director openings in Florida. Miami's activity is driven by construction, real estate development, and technology firms, while Tampa and Orlando draw heavily from defense contractors, aerospace suppliers, and the growing technology sector anchored by major employer campuses and regional headquarters throughout the I-4 corridor.
Are there remote engineering director jobs in Florida?
Yes, but they are less common than in purely analytical fields, since engineering directors frequently oversee on-site teams, facilities, and physical project delivery. About 35% of engineering director openings tied to Florida are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those that are remote tend to concentrate in software engineering leadership and systems architecture direction rather than hands-on civil or infrastructure roles.
How can I get hired as a engineering director in Florida with little or no experience?
The most realistic path is moving into an engineering manager or senior project engineer role first, then building toward director-level responsibilities. Large Florida employers in aerospace and defense, such as those with operations in the Space Coast and Tampa Bay areas, frequently hire engineers into formal leadership development programs. Holding or pursuing a Professional Engineer license from the Florida Board of Professional Engineers, or gaining relevant project management credentials, makes the transition considerably more competitive.
Where can I find and apply to engineering director jobs in Florida?
You can find and apply to engineering director jobs in Florida on Migrate Mate, which lists current Florida openings across industries and metro areas. Find roles that fit your experience and apply directly to the ones that match.
