Tips for Your Estate Appraiser Job Search
Align your credentials to each listing
Appraisal job listings often specify whether they need a Trainee, Licensed, Certified Residential, or Certified General credential. Match the exact license level in your resume headline so hiring managers don't have to guess where you stand.
Highlight your appraisal software proficiency
Most estate appraisal roles expect hands-on experience with tools like ACI, TOTAL by a la mode, or ClickForms. Call these out explicitly in a skills section rather than burying them in job descriptions, since many applicants skip this step.
Quantify your completed appraisal volume
Hiring managers want to know how productive you are, not just that you have experience. State the number of appraisals you complete monthly and the property types you've covered, from single-family to mixed-use or personal property estates.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists estate appraiser openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Target openings by property type specialty
Search for openings that name your niche, whether that's personal property, real property, or estate liquidation. Generalist applications to specialist firms rarely advance, so filter your search to roles where your specific appraisal category is the core function.
Prepare a comparable sales narrative for interviews
Estate appraiser interviews frequently include a practical scenario where you walk through how you'd select and adjust comparable sales. Practice explaining your methodology out loud so you can defend your reasoning under direct questioning, not just on paper.
Estate Appraiser Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most estate appraisers?
The companies hiring the most estate appraisers right now include Newmark, Cushman & Wakefield, and Class Valuation, with the largest share of openings in Wisconsin, Florida, and North Dakota, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Appraisal management companies and regional financial institutions tend to post the highest volumes of openings consistently.
How many estate appraiser jobs are remote?
About 30% of estate appraiser openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, though remote availability varies significantly by role type. Desk review appraisals and appraisal review positions are most likely to be offered remotely, while field appraisal roles requiring property inspections almost always remain on-site.
How do you become an estate appraiser?
You start by completing your state's required appraisal education hours and working as a trainee under a certified supervisor to log field experience. Once you meet your state's hour requirements, you pass the national exam and apply for your license. From there, you can pursue Certified Residential or Certified General credentials by completing additional coursework and experience hours.
Can you get hired as an estate appraiser with little or no experience?
Yes, many firms hire at the trainee level specifically for candidates without field experience. Trainee roles pair you with a supervising certified appraiser so you build your required hours on the job. Emphasizing any related background in real estate, finance, or property research, along with completing your required education hours before applying, strengthens an entry-level application considerably.
What does the estate appraiser interview process look like?
Most estate appraiser interviews include an initial screening call focused on your license level and software experience, followed by a technical interview where you walk through a completed appraisal or explain how you'd approach a specific property type. Some employers add a written exercise requiring you to select and adjust comparable sales. Final-round conversations typically cover your turnaround time, report volume, and how you handle complex or disputed valuations.
Where can I find and apply to estate appraiser jobs?
You can find and apply to estate appraiser jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers across the United States. Search the listings to find roles that match your license level, property type specialty, and preferred location, then apply directly to each listing that fits.
