Estimator Jobs in Austin: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get an estimator job in Austin?
The strongest path into Austin's estimator market runs through its construction and civil infrastructure sectors, which are expanding steadily due to major road, transit, and commercial development projects across the city. Firms working the Domain, East Austin redevelopment, and the southeast growth corridor hire regularly. Candidates with takeoff software proficiency, experience in ground-up commercial builds, or familiarity with Texas Department of Transportation project scopes tend to stand out in local searches.
Which companies hire estimators in Austin?
Employers hiring estimators in Austin right now include Google, Sundt Construction, and Structure Tone Southwest, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Austin's hiring mix leans toward regional general contractors, civil engineering firms, and specialty subcontractors supporting the city's sustained construction boom.
Are there remote estimator jobs in Austin?
Yes, but only for certain specialties. Estimator work is often tied to site visits, material takeoffs, and contractor coordination, which limits full remote options for field-heavy roles. About 7% of estimator openings tied to Austin are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, concentrated among firms doing quantity takeoff, cost analysis, or preconstruction planning where the core work is desk-based.
How can I get an estimator job in Austin with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point in Austin is a junior estimator or estimating assistant role at a regional general contractor or specialty subcontractor, where you support senior estimators on bid packages and learn takeoff workflows on the job. Austin's active construction pipeline means smaller firms working the suburbs and outer growth corridors hire entry-level candidates more readily than downtown outfits. A background in construction management, engineering, or even skilled trades gives you a clear edge over applicants without field exposure.
Which industries hire the most estimators in Austin?
The sectors hiring the most estimators in Austin are Construction & Real Estate, Technology & Software, and Artificial Intelligence, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Austin's sustained population growth and infrastructure investment keep construction and civil project pipelines full, driving consistent local demand for estimating talent.
