Estimator Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a estimator in Texas?
Texas does not require a state-issued license specifically for estimators, so the path starts with a relevant degree in construction management, civil engineering, or architecture, followed by entry-level field or project support experience. Many Texas employers expect familiarity with local subcontractor networks and regional pricing. Earning a Certified Professional Estimator credential through the American Society of Professional Estimators strengthens a candidate's profile and is widely recognized by Texas construction and engineering firms.
How much do estimators make in Texas?
Estimators in Texas earn a median of about $76,980 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $45,760 for the lowest 10% to over $132,310 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire estimators in Texas?
Employers hiring estimators in Texas right now include Caliber Collision, Jobot, and Structure Tone Southwest, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's scale of commercial development and energy infrastructure means large engineering, construction management, and industrial contractors consistently carry open estimating roles across multiple project types.
Which Texas cities have the most estimator jobs?
Houston, Dallas, and Austin have the most estimator job openings in Texas. Houston dominates due to its concentration of energy, petrochemical, and industrial construction activity, while Dallas-Fort Worth draws volume from commercial real estate, data center, and infrastructure work, and San Antonio supports steady demand through military facility projects, healthcare construction, and regional general contractors.
Are there remote estimator jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're less common than in purely desk-based fields, since estimating often involves site visits, subcontractor meetings, and hands-on plan review. About 9% of estimator openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting growing acceptance of digital takeoff tools. The portions of the role most suited to remote work are quantity takeoffs, bid preparation, and cost database maintenance.
How can I get hired as a estimator in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a project engineer, project coordinator, or field engineer role with a large Texas general contractor, where estimating exposure comes through assisting on bid teams. Companies like Turner Construction, Hensel Phelps, and Austin Industries run structured associate and internship programs that place candidates without estimating experience alongside senior estimators. A construction management degree from a Texas university or a completed CPE candidacy through ASPE significantly improves your chances of being considered for these entry pipelines.
Where can I find and apply to estimator jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to estimator jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers hiring in the state right now. Search the listings, find roles that match your experience and target location, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
