Estimator Jobs in Houston: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a estimator job in Houston?
Focus your search on Houston's construction, oil and gas, and heavy industrial sectors, which consistently drive the most estimator openings locally. Companies concentrated in the Energy Corridor, Westchase, and the Texas Medical Center complex hire regularly. Candidates with experience in commercial or industrial project scoping, familiarity with Houston's prevailing cost structures, and proficiency in estimating software tend to stand out against the local applicant pool.
Which companies hire estimators in Houston?
Employers hiring estimators in Houston right now include Fluor, Burns & McDonnell, and Qcells, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Houston's mix of major EPC firms, regional general contractors, and specialty subcontractors means openings exist at both large enterprise employers and mid-size project-focused shops.
Are there remote estimator jobs in Houston?
Yes, though opportunities depend heavily on the type of estimating work, since field-dependent roles in construction and industrial projects typically require on-site presence while takeoff, bid coordination, and cost analysis roles are more compatible with remote work. About 3% of estimator openings tied to Houston are remote or hybrid as of June 2026. Desk-based estimating for engineering and procurement firms in the Energy Corridor area tends to be the most remote-accessible segment locally.
How can I get a estimator job in Houston with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Houston is through a junior estimator or estimating assistant role at a regional general contractor or specialty subcontractor, where you support senior estimators on bid preparation and material takeoffs. Houston's active commercial construction market and large concentration of industrial maintenance firms hire entry-level candidates who show solid math fundamentals and comfort with estimating software. A background in construction management, engineering technology, or even a relevant trade apprenticeship gives local candidates a concrete advantage.
Which industries hire the most estimators in Houston?
Most estimator openings in Houston sit in Construction & Real Estate, Consulting & Professional Services, and Manufacturing, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Houston's status as a global energy hub and one of the largest construction markets in the country means demand for estimators tracks closely with infrastructure investment, petrochemical project cycles, and commercial development activity across the metro.
