Facilities Maintenance Technician Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a facilities maintenance technician in Texas?
Most facilities maintenance technician roles in Texas start with a vocational certificate or associate degree in HVAC technology, industrial maintenance, or electrical systems from a community college such as Houston Community College, Austin Community College, or Dallas College. Texas does not require a single statewide facilities technician license, but obtaining EPA 608 certification for refrigerant handling and OSHA 10 or 30 training makes candidates significantly more competitive with Texas employers across commercial, industrial, and institutional settings.
How much do facilities maintenance technicians make in Texas?
Facilities maintenance technicians in Texas earn a median of about $46,670 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $30,950 for the lowest 10% to over $74,220 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire facilities maintenance technicians in Texas?
Employers hiring facilities maintenance technicians in Texas right now include Walmart, ABM Industries, and AST SpaceMobile, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's dense concentration of energy companies, large hospital networks, and major distribution centers means facilities maintenance roles appear consistently year-round across the state.
Which Texas cities have the most facilities maintenance technician jobs?
Houston, Midland, and Abilene have the highest concentration of facilities maintenance technician openings in Texas. Houston drives volume through its petrochemical plants, medical center campuses, and commercial office stock, while Dallas-Fort Worth's logistics hubs, corporate headquarters, and retail footprint keep demand steady, and San Antonio's military installations, healthcare systems, and hotel industry create consistent openings in that market.
Are there remote facilities maintenance technician jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. Facilities maintenance technician work is inherently hands-on and tied to physical locations, so most roles require on-site presence. About 0% of facilities maintenance technician openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those positions typically cover coordination, scheduling, or maintenance management functions rather than direct repair and inspection duties.
How can I get hired as a facilities maintenance technician in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for a maintenance technician helper or facilities assistant role at a large Texas employer such as a hospital system, university, or property management company while completing EPA 608 certification and OSHA 10 training. Dallas College and San Jacinto College both offer short-term maintenance technology certificates designed for career changers. Moving laterally from janitorial, groundskeeping, or warehouse roles within the same organization is a common way to earn a first technician title with an established Texas employer.
Where can I find and apply to facilities maintenance technician jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to facilities maintenance technician jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings updated regularly. Find the roles that fit your experience and location and apply directly to the employers posting them.
