Field Service Technician Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a field service technician in Texas?
Most field service technician roles in Texas require an associate degree or a certificate from a Texas technical college in electronics, electrical technology, or a related field. Programs at institutions like Texas State Technical College and Houston Community College are recognized pathways. For roles involving electrical work, the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation oversees electrician licensing, which some employers require or prefer. Employers in energy and industrial sectors often provide additional on-the-job training after hire.
Which companies hire field service technicians in Texas?
Employers hiring field service technicians in Texas right now include Sunbelt Rentals, Integrated Power Services, and Cummins, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's concentration of energy, manufacturing, and healthcare facilities means demand is consistent across both large multinationals and regional service contractors operating throughout the state.
Which Texas cities have the most field service technician jobs?
Houston, San Antonio, and Dallas have the most field service technician openings in Texas right now. Houston leads because of its dense concentration of petrochemical plants, refineries, and medical center campuses, while Dallas-Fort Worth draws demand from manufacturing, data centers, and corporate headquarters, and San Antonio's military installations and growing healthcare sector anchor steady hiring there.
Are there remote field service technician jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. Field service technician work is fundamentally hands-on and site-based, so most roles require physical presence at customer locations. About 10% of field service technician openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those positions typically involve remote diagnostics, technical support coordination, or service dispatch rather than direct equipment work.
How can I get hired as a field service technician in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is completing a one- to two-year technical certificate at a Texas State Technical College campus in Waco, Harlingen, or Marshall, then applying to apprenticeship or trainee programs that companies like Siemens, Schneider Electric, and regional HVAC contractors run in Texas. Entry roles titled field service associate, service technician trainee, or bench technician are common first steps. Earning a CompTIA certification or an OSHA 10 card while in school gives candidates a clear edge in Texas hiring pipelines.
Where can I find and apply to field service technician jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to field service technician jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers across the state. Search the available roles, find the ones that fit your experience and location, and apply directly to the employer through the listing.
