Fuel Truck Driver Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a fuel truck driver in Texas?
To become a fuel truck driver in Texas, you need a Commercial Driver's License issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety, which requires passing a written knowledge test and a skills road test. Because fuel is classified as a hazardous material, you must also obtain a Hazardous Materials endorsement, which includes a TSA background check and an additional written exam. Many Texas carriers provide on-the-job tanker training after you have your CDL in hand.
How much do fuel truck drivers make in Texas?
Fuel truck drivers in Texas earn a median of about $56,290 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $38,150 for the lowest 10% to over $79,400 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire fuel truck drivers in Texas?
Employers hiring fuel truck drivers in Texas right now include Dupre Logistics, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's dense oilfield activity and extensive highway network keep demand steady across both established fuel distributors and regional petroleum carriers throughout the state.
Which Texas cities have the most fuel truck driver jobs?
Austin, Carrollton, and Channelview consistently lead Texas in fuel truck driver openings. Houston anchors demand through its petrochemical refineries and port operations, while Midland-Odessa draws heavily from active Permian Basin drilling and production sites, and San Antonio serves as a major distribution hub connecting South Texas fuel networks to Central Texas commercial corridors.
Are there remote fuel truck driver jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. Fuel truck driving is a hands-on, road-based role that requires physical presence for every delivery run, so remote arrangements are not common in this field. About 0% of fuel truck driver openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those positions typically involve dispatch coordination or fleet scheduling rather than active driving duties.
How can I get hired as a fuel truck driver in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is obtaining your CDL and Hazardous Materials endorsement through the Texas Department of Public Safety, then applying to regional petroleum distributors and fuel logistics carriers that run paid tanker orientation programs for newly licensed drivers. Companies based in Texas's major refining corridors around Houston and Beaumont commonly bring on drivers who hold a valid CDL but lack tanker hours, pairing them with experienced drivers during initial route training. Starting as a straight-truck delivery driver or fuel transport assistant are common lateral moves that build the background carriers want.
Where can I find and apply to fuel truck driver jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to fuel truck driver jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the available roles, find positions that match your experience and location, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
