Senior Security Operations Engineer Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a senior security operations engineer in Texas?
Most senior security operations engineers in Texas enter through a combination of a bachelor's degree in cybersecurity, computer science, or information systems, followed by several years in a security operations center or network security role. Texas does not require a state-issued license specifically for this role, but employers consistently expect industry credentials such as CISSP or CISM. Many large Texas-based defense contractors and financial institutions offer rotational security programs that accelerate the path to senior-level positions.
How much do senior security operations engineers make in Texas?
Senior security operations engineers in Texas earn a median of about $111,530 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $55,480 for the lowest 10% to over $174,300 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire senior security operations engineers in Texas?
Employers hiring senior security operations engineers in Texas right now include Planned Parenthood of Greater Texas, MNTN, and Oracle, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Texas's concentration of defense primes, regional banks, and major energy companies means hiring tends to be consistent year-round rather than seasonal.
Which Texas cities have the most senior security operations engineer jobs?
Austin, Dallas, and Houston have the most senior security operations engineer openings in Texas. Austin's technology sector and state government agencies, Dallas's dense financial services and telecom industry, and San Antonio's large military and defense contractor presence, including Joint Base San Antonio, each drive sustained and distinct demand for this role.
Are there remote senior security operations engineer jobs in Texas?
Yes, and more than most technical fields, since much of the work involves monitoring dashboards, analyzing logs, and responding through digital tooling rather than physical presence. About 20% of senior security operations engineer openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, though roles supporting classified government contracts or OT environments typically require on-site work. Purely analytical or cloud-focused positions carry the highest likelihood of remote flexibility.
How can I get hired as a senior security operations engineer in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a security analyst or IT support role at a Texas employer that operates its own security operations center, then building toward the engineer tier from within. Large Texas-based employers such as USAA, Dell Technologies, and major hospital systems like Baylor Scott and White run formal cyber associate and new-grad programs aimed at candidates without direct experience. Earning a CompTIA Security+ certification and building a home-lab or capture-the-flag portfolio before applying gives candidates a concrete edge in Texas's competitive market.
Where can I find and apply to senior security operations engineer jobs in Texas?
