Shipping and Receiving Clerk Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a shipping and receiving clerk in Texas?
Most shipping and receiving clerk positions in Texas require a high school diploma or equivalent and are filled through on-the-job training. Texas does not issue a state license for this role, but employers strongly prefer candidates who hold a valid forklift operator certification from an OSHA-compliant program, which many Texas community colleges and workforce development centers offer. Completing a logistics or supply chain certificate through a Texas Workforce Commission partner institution can also strengthen your application significantly.
Which companies hire shipping and receiving clerks in Texas?
Companies currently hiring shipping and receiving clerks in Texas include HYDAC, Taylor Corporation, and Bodycote North America, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Texas's concentration of distribution centers, petrochemical facilities, and large retail operations makes it one of the most active states for this role year-round.
Which Texas cities have the most shipping and receiving clerk jobs?
Katy, Alvin, and Dallas lead Texas for shipping and receiving clerk openings. Houston's port and energy sector drive heavy demand for logistics workers, Dallas-Fort Worth's dense network of regional distribution hubs anchors the North Texas market, and San Antonio's growing manufacturing and military supply chain presence supports steady hiring in the South Texas corridor.
Are there remote shipping and receiving clerk jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. The role is fundamentally hands-on, requiring physical handling of goods, verification of shipments, and operation of equipment that cannot be performed off-site. About 0% of shipping and receiving clerk openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and those positions typically involve administrative tasks such as coordinating freight schedules or managing digital inventory records rather than floor-level warehouse work.
How can I get hired as a shipping and receiving clerk in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying directly to warehouse associate or material handler roles at large Texas distribution employers like Amazon fulfillment centers or H-E-B distribution facilities, which regularly hire candidates without prior experience and provide paid on-the-job training. Completing a forklift safety certification through a Texas Workforce Commission partner school or a local community college adds immediate credibility. Lateral moves from stocker, freight team member, or retail backroom associate roles are common stepping stones that Texas employers recognize when evaluating entry-level candidates.
