Event Coordinator Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a event coordinator in California?
Event coordination in California does not require a state-issued license, so the path centers on education and credential-building. Most California employers expect at least a bachelor's degree in hospitality, communications, marketing, or a related field. The Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) designation, administered by the Events Industry Council, is widely recognized by California hiring managers and meaningfully strengthens a candidacy. Volunteering with conferences, festivals, or nonprofit galas in California is a common way to build a portfolio before landing a first paid role.
How much do event coordinators make in California?
Event coordinators in California earn a median of about $71,120 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $44,850 for the lowest 10% to over $121,310 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire event coordinators in California?
Employers hiring event coordinators in California right now include CBRE, SBM Management Services, and Sage Hospitality, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's concentration of corporate headquarters, major hotel groups, and large entertainment companies means full-time in-house event coordinator positions are more common here than in most other states.
Which California cities have the most event coordinator jobs?
San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Culver City have the most event coordinator openings in California. Los Angeles leads because of its dense concentration of entertainment studios, corporate headquarters, and luxury hospitality venues, while San Francisco draws demand from the tech sector's heavy conference and product-launch calendar, and San Diego benefits from its large convention center, biotech industry events, and year-round tourism infrastructure.
Are there remote event coordinator jobs in California?
Yes, but they're rare. About 10% of event coordinator openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the fundamentally on-site nature of most event work. The parts of the role most likely to be handled remotely are pre-event logistics, vendor communications, and budget tracking, while setup, day-of coordination, and venue management almost always require a physical presence.
How can I get hired as a event coordinator in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is volunteering or interning with California's large nonprofit, university, or festival organizations, where coordinators gain hands-on experience managing real events. Schools like UCLA, USC, and Cal Poly offer hospitality and event management programs with direct employer partnerships. Large hotel groups and convention centers in Los Angeles and San Diego routinely hire event assistant and banquet coordinator roles as entry points. Earning the CMP-IS designation, designed specifically for those new to the field, gives candidates a clear edge with California employers screening entry-level applicants.
Where can I find and apply to event coordinator jobs in California?
You can find and apply to event coordinator jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the listings to find roles that match your experience level and preferred location, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
