Clinical Program Manager Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a clinical program manager in California?
Most clinical program managers in California start with a clinical license, typically an RN issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing, though roles in behavioral health may require licensure through the California Board of Behavioral Sciences. From there, employers expect a bachelor's degree in a health-related field and several years of direct clinical work before moving into program oversight. A master's in public health, nursing, or healthcare administration strengthens competitiveness considerably for senior roles.
How much do clinical program managers make in California?
Clinical program managers in California earn a median of about $210,230 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $130,730 for the lowest 10% to over $330,050 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire clinical program managers in California?
Employers hiring clinical program managers in California right now include Revolution Medicines, Exelixis, and The People Concern, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's large integrated health systems, regional health plans, and biotech companies in the Bay Area and San Diego also post consistently throughout the year.
Which California cities have the most clinical program manager jobs?
Redwood City, San Francisco, and Los Angeles have the most clinical program manager openings in California. Los Angeles leads because of its concentration of large hospital systems and health plans, while San Francisco draws heavily from biotech and digital health employers, and San Diego's life sciences sector and VA medical infrastructure support steady demand in that region.
Are there remote clinical program manager jobs in California?
Yes, but they're less common than in purely desk-based roles because the position often involves direct oversight of care teams and on-site program operations. About 12% of clinical program manager openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, with fully remote work most likely in utilization management, quality improvement, and population health roles that rely on data review rather than in-person care delivery.
How can I get hired as a clinical program manager in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving into a care coordination or case management role first, since California health systems such as Kaiser Permanente and UCLA Health regularly hire RNs and licensed social workers for these positions without prior management experience. From there, leading a small quality initiative or serving as a charge nurse builds the program oversight evidence employers want. Completing a certification such as the Certified Case Manager credential or a California-recognized project management qualification also helps differentiate early-career candidates.
Where can I find and apply to clinical program manager jobs in California?
You can find and apply to clinical program manager jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current California openings updated regularly. Find the roles that fit your background and apply directly to the employers posting them.
