Business Operations Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a business operations professional in California?
Most business operations roles in California require a bachelor's degree in business administration, operations management, finance, or a related field. California does not issue a state license for business operations work, so employers focus on education, relevant experience, and demonstrated skills. Certifications such as the Project Management Professional or Lean Six Sigma credentials are widely recognized by California employers and can strengthen a candidate's profile considerably.
How much do business operationses make in California?
Business operationses in California earn a median of about $87,570 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $46,410 for the lowest 10% to over $169,160 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire business operations professionals in California?
Employers hiring business operations professionals in California right now include Finish Line, TikTok, and McDonald's, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's dense concentration of technology firms, large health systems, and financial institutions means steady, year-round demand for business operations talent across the state.
Which California cities have the most business operations jobs?
San Francisco, Los Angeles, and San Jose have the most business operations openings in California. San Francisco and the broader Bay Area lead because of the concentration of technology and venture-backed companies headquartered there, while Los Angeles draws demand from entertainment, media, healthcare, and consumer goods, and San Diego benefits from a strong life sciences and defense sector.
Are there remote business operations jobs in California?
Yes, and more than most fields. Business operations is largely an analytical and coordination-focused role that translates well to remote and hybrid arrangements. About 18% of business operations openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how widely California employers have adopted flexible work policies. Strategy, revenue operations, and program management functions tend to be the most remote-friendly specialties.
How can I get hired as a business operations professional in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through an operations coordinator or business analyst associate role, which California technology, healthcare, and financial services companies regularly post as early-career positions. Large California employers such as Kaiser Permanente and major Bay Area technology firms run rotational associate programs designed for recent graduates. Building a portfolio that demonstrates process documentation, data analysis, or project coordination work, and earning a Lean Six Sigma White or Yellow Belt certificate, gives candidates a concrete edge over other applicants without direct experience.
