Account Project Manager Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a account project manager in California?
Most employers in California hire account project managers with a bachelor's degree in business, marketing, communications, or a related field, combined with experience in client-facing or project coordination roles. California does not require a state-issued license for this role. Earning a PMP certification through the Project Management Institute or a CAPM for early-career candidates meaningfully strengthens applications at larger California technology and agency employers.
How much do account project managers make in California?
Account project managers in California earn a median of about $120,910 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $69,180 for the lowest 10% to over $188,560 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire account project managers in California?
Employers hiring account project managers in California right now include Finish Line, GHD, and Kohl's, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's concentration of enterprise tech companies, creative agencies, and entertainment studios makes it one of the most consistent states for account project manager openings year-round.
Which California cities have the most account project manager jobs?
San Francisco, Los Angeles, and San Jose have the most account project manager openings in California. Los Angeles anchors the list through its dense advertising, entertainment, and media agency ecosystem, while San Francisco and San Jose reflect the high volume of SaaS and enterprise technology companies that rely on account project managers to manage client delivery.
Are there remote account project manager jobs in California?
Yes, and more than most fields. Account project management is largely desk-based and communication-driven, making it well suited to remote or hybrid arrangements. About 28% of account project manager openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, with fully remote roles most common in SaaS client success and digital marketing account management.
How can I get hired as a account project manager in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a project coordinator or account coordinator role, which many California technology companies and full-service agencies use as a direct pipeline into account project management. Employers like Accenture and larger Los Angeles creative agencies regularly hire associate-level coordinators without prior account management titles. A CAPM certification and a portfolio of organized projects, even from internships or freelance work, give candidates a clear edge over others at the same experience level.
Where can I find and apply to account project manager jobs in California?
