Family Physician Jobs in Washington
Family Physician jobs in Washington are in strong and consistent demand, concentrated in primary care clinics, integrated health systems, and federally qualified health centers, with openings at every level from newly licensed graduates through senior and lead physicians. Seattle, Spokane, and Bellevue anchor the largest share of hiring, where established systems like Kaiser Permanente, UW Medicine, and Providence Health are among the most active employers. Washington's shortage of rural and community-based primary care continues to drive openings beyond the major metros, and physicians with experience in chronic disease management and behavioral health integration are especially sought. Family Physician Jobs in Washington: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a family physician in Washington?
To become a family physician in Washington, you must earn a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, complete an accredited family medicine residency, pass the USMLE or COMLEX licensing exams, and obtain a full medical license through the Washington Medical Commission. Board certification through the American Board of Family Medicine strengthens most applications. Washington also requires a separate controlled substance registration before you can prescribe scheduled medications.
How much do family physicians make in Washington?
Family physicians in Washington earn a median of about $292,900 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $145,640 for the lowest 10% to over $337,870 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire family physicians in Washington?
Employers hiring family physicians in Washington right now include Provider Solutions & Development, HealthPoint (Washington), and MultiCare Health System, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Washington's large integrated health systems, federally qualified health centers, and tribal health programs all maintain ongoing recruitment pipelines for family medicine roles across the state.
Which Washington cities have the most family physician jobs?
Seattle, Spokane, and Tacoma have the most family physician openings in Washington right now. Seattle and its surrounding suburbs generate the largest volume because of the concentration of major health systems and academic medical centers there, while Spokane and other regional centers serve as primary care hubs for eastern Washington and its surrounding rural communities.
Are there remote family physician jobs in Washington?
Yes, but they're rare. Family medicine is a hands-on clinical role that requires in-person patient care for the vast majority of positions. About 8% of family physician openings tied to Washington are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those roles are almost always telehealth-specific positions focused on follow-up visits, chronic disease monitoring, or behavioral health consultations rather than full-scope primary care.
How can I get hired as a family physician in Washington with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying directly through the new-physician recruitment programs that large Washington health systems such as UW Medicine, MultiCare, and HealthPoint run for physicians completing or recently completing residency. These programs place graduates into supervised outpatient panels with mentorship built in. Federally qualified health centers across Washington, including those serving rural and underserved communities, are also known for hiring new graduates and often provide loan repayment incentives. Having your Washington Medical Commission license in hand and board eligibility documented before you apply moves your application forward fastest.
Where can I find and apply to family physician jobs in Washington?
You can find and apply to family physician jobs in Washington on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers hiring across the state right now. Find roles that fit your experience and location preference and apply directly to the employers posting them.
