Fashion Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a fashion professional in New York?
Most fashion roles in New York do not require a state-issued license, but building a competitive profile means earning a degree from a recognized program such as those at the Fashion Institute of Technology or Parsons School of Design. Employers typically expect a strong portfolio alongside your resume. Internships with New York brands during school are one of the most reliable ways to convert to a full-time role after graduation.
How much do fashions make in New York?
Fashions in New York earn a median of about $98,640 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $62,610 for the lowest 10% to over $177,430 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire fashions in New York?
Employers hiring fashions in New York right now include Walmart, CHANEL, and Springs Window Fashions, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's concentration of headquarters for global luxury, sportswear, and contemporary brands means hiring tends to be consistent year-round across both large corporations and independent design houses.
Which New York cities have the most fashion jobs?
New York, Niagara Falls, and Brooklyn have the most fashion job openings in New York. Manhattan dominates because the city's Garment District and Fifth Avenue retail corridor anchor the industry's design, production, and wholesale operations, while Brooklyn has grown as a hub for independent labels and creative studios, and surrounding metro areas reflect the distribution and logistics infrastructure that supports major brands.
Are there remote fashion jobs in New York?
Yes, but they are limited. About 4% of fashion openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how much of the work involves physical samples, showrooms, and in-person fittings. The roles most likely to offer remote flexibility are in buying, trend forecasting, e-commerce merchandising, and digital content production.
How can I get hired as a fashion professional in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through an internship or assistant role at a New York brand, where PVH Corp, Tapestry, and department store groups like Macy's regularly run structured programs for early-career candidates. Styling assistant, production coordinator, and visual merchandising associate positions are common entry points that lead into core design or buying careers. A strong portfolio and a degree from FIT or Parsons gives candidates a concrete edge with New York hiring managers.
Where can I find and apply to fashion jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to fashion jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers actively hiring in the state. Search the listings, find roles that fit your background and the area of fashion you work in, and apply directly to the ones that match.
