Field Support Specialist Jobs in Nebraska: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a field support specialist in Nebraska?
The most direct path is completing an associate degree in information technology or electronics technology, programs offered at institutions like Southeast Community College or Metropolitan Community College in Omaha. Nebraska does not require a state-issued license for most field support specialist roles, but vendor certifications from CompTIA, Cisco, or Microsoft strengthen applications considerably. Employers in Omaha and Lincoln typically expect both a technical credential and a clean driving record.
Which companies hire field support specialists in Nebraska?
Nebraska field support specialist roles are posted by Safeway, Golden Steps ABA, and Creighton University and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Nebraska's concentration of financial services companies, agricultural technology firms, and logistics operations in the Omaha and Lincoln corridors makes these among the most consistent hiring sectors in the state.
Which Nebraska cities have the most field support specialist jobs?
Omaha, Lincoln, and Nebraska have the most field support specialist openings in Nebraska right now. Omaha leads because it is home to major corporate headquarters in financial services, telecommunications, and logistics, while Lincoln's state government agencies and university system generate steady IT support demand, and Grand Island's manufacturing and distribution base drives regional field service needs.
Are there remote field support specialist jobs in Nebraska?
Yes, but they're rare. Field support specialist work is fundamentally on-site because it involves hands-on hardware installation, equipment repair, and in-person end-user support at client locations. About 31% of field support specialist openings tied to Nebraska are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and those positions are almost always limited to dispatch coordination, remote diagnostics triage, or software-only support roles.
How can I get hired as a field support specialist in Nebraska with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to help desk or desktop support technician roles at Omaha-area managed service providers or corporate IT departments, which regularly bring in candidates without field experience and promote internally. Nelnet and Union Pacific both run associate-level IT programs for recent graduates. A CompTIA A+ certification signals technical readiness to Nebraska hiring managers and can substitute for years of experience at many entry-level postings.
