Financial Accountant Jobs in Houston: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a financial accountant job in Houston?
Focus your search on Houston's energy corridor, the Texas Medical Center, and the Downtown financial district, where demand for financial accountants is most concentrated. Energy companies, large healthcare systems, engineering firms, and midstream operators are the heaviest local hirers. Candidates with experience in joint venture accounting, revenue recognition under ASC 606, or cost accounting for capital-intensive projects stand out in this market.
Which companies hire financial accountants in Houston?
Companies currently hiring financial accountants in Houston include EY, University of Houston, and Accenture, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Houston's employer base skews heavily toward integrated energy producers, oilfield services firms, hospital systems, and large engineering and construction contractors, all of which maintain substantial in-house accounting teams.
Are there remote financial accountant jobs in Houston?
Yes, though remote availability depends on the role: desk-based analytical and reporting positions are more remote-friendly than hands-on close or compliance roles. About 38% of financial accountant openings tied to Houston are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, with the highest remote share in financial reporting, FP&A support, and intercompany accounting functions at larger Houston-based corporations.
How can I get a financial accountant job in Houston with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Houston is a staff accountant or accounting associate role at a mid-size energy services company, a regional healthcare system, or one of the major engineering contractors headquartered along the Energy Corridor. These employers routinely hire recent graduates and rotate them through accounts payable, general ledger, and month-end close. A CPA track, internship with a Houston public accounting firm, or familiarity with SAP or Oracle strengthens a junior candidate's profile locally.
Which industries hire the most financial accountants in Houston?
The sectors hiring the most financial accountants in Houston are Education, Accounting & Auditing, and Construction & Real Estate, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Houston's role as a global energy hub, combined with the Texas Medical Center's scale and a dense base of engineering and construction firms, consistently drives high-volume accounting hiring across those sectors.
