Forklift Technician Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a forklift technician in California?
The most direct path is completing an industrial or diesel equipment technology program at a California community college, such as those offered through the California Community Colleges system, followed by an entry-level technician or lube technician role at a dealership or fleet operator. California does not require a state-issued license specific to forklift repair, but manufacturers like Toyota, Crown, and Hyster-Yale offer factory certification programs that California employers strongly prefer when hiring.
Which companies hire forklift technicians in California?
Employers hiring forklift technicians in California right now include The Home Depot, Forklifts, and Motive Companies, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. California's dense concentration of distribution centers, cold storage facilities, and food manufacturing plants in the Inland Empire and Central Valley means demand from both dealerships and in-house fleet maintenance operations stays consistent throughout the year.
Which California cities have the most forklift technician jobs?
The cities with the most forklift technician openings in California are Perris, California, and Tracy. The Inland Empire anchors much of this demand because it hosts one of the largest concentrations of Amazon fulfillment centers and third-party logistics warehouses in North America, while Los Angeles and Stockton generate steady openings through port-adjacent distribution, food processing, and regional fleet service operations.
Are there remote forklift technician jobs in California?
Yes, but they're rare. Forklift technician work is fundamentally hands-on, requiring physical access to equipment for diagnosis, repair, and testing. About 0% of forklift technician openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, and those roles tend to be service coordinator or technical support positions rather than bench or field repair work.
How can I get hired as a forklift technician in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for a lube and service technician or technician helper role at a material handling dealership, where hands-on training happens on the job alongside experienced mechanics. California dealerships affiliated with Toyota Material Handling USA, Hyster-Yale, and Crown Equipment regularly bring on candidates from community college industrial technology programs with no prior commercial experience. Completing a California community college certificate in diesel or industrial equipment technology gives candidates a meaningful edge over walk-in applicants.
Where can I find and apply to forklift technician jobs in California?
You can find and apply to forklift technician jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers actively hiring in the state. Search the listings by city or specialty, find the roles that match your experience level and certifications, and apply directly through each posting.
