Entry Level Foundation Director Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get an entry level foundation director job?
Entry level foundation director roles typically look for candidates who have completed internships, volunteer work, or coursework in nonprofit management, fundraising, or philanthropy. Demonstrating hands-on grant writing experience, donor relations work, or community outreach projects gives candidates a real edge. A strong cover letter that connects your education and early experience to the foundation's mission can move your application forward at this stage.
Which companies hire entry level foundation directors?
Companies hiring entry level foundation directors right now include Stand Together Foundation, Wabtec, and Salesforce, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Hiring at this level comes primarily from community foundations, healthcare systems, educational institutions, and nonprofit organizations that have dedicated development or philanthropy departments with capacity to onboard and train early-career professionals.
Are there remote entry level foundation director jobs?
Yes, though most entry level foundation director roles are still on-site or hybrid given the relationship-building nature of the work. About 30% of entry level foundation director openings are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, so candidates open to on-site positions will find the widest range of opportunities when searching current listings.
Are these new grad foundation director jobs?
Yes, many of these listings are new grad and junior roles that explicitly welcome recent graduates and candidates with little or no formal experience. A posting is new-grad friendly when it accepts zero to two years of experience, counts internships or volunteer work toward requirements, or values a portfolio of grant writing samples and fundraising projects over an extensive professional history.
Which industries hire the most entry level foundation directors?
Entry Level foundation director roles concentrate in Healthcare & Medical Services, Education, and Technology & Software, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. These sectors drive hiring at this level because they maintain active philanthropic programs, endowments, or community investment initiatives that require dedicated early-career development staff to support donor engagement and grant administration.
