Mid Level General Counsel Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a mid level general counsel job?
Position yourself around ownership, not just participation. Highlight matters you led independently, business clients you advised without supervision, and decisions you made that had measurable legal or commercial impact. Tailor your resume to show depth in a practice area relevant to the employer's industry. A concise cover letter that connects your existing experience to the specific risks the company faces will separate you from generalist candidates.
Which companies hire mid level general counsels?
Companies hiring mid level general counsels right now include Epic, Amazon, and Apple, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Mid level openings tend to come from growth-stage companies building out in-house teams and established organizations replacing or expanding legal staff at the senior associate or junior general counsel tier.
Are there remote mid level general counsel jobs?
Yes, though availability varies by employer and practice focus. About 25% of mid level general counsel openings are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, with hybrid arrangements more common at larger companies that want attorneys accessible to business teams. Roles involving frequent board interaction, litigation management, or sensitive regulatory matters are more likely to require in-office presence.
How do I move up to a mid level general counsel role?
The path from entry level to mid level is built through accumulating independent ownership of legal work. Early in your career, focus on mastering core skills in your practice area, then seek out opportunities to run smaller matters without close supervision. Demonstrating sound judgment, building relationships with internal business clients, and showing measurable impact on outcomes signals readiness to take on a mid level scope.
Which industries hire the most mid level general counsels?
Mid Level general counsel roles concentrate in Technology & Software, Healthcare & Medical Services, and Retail, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. These sectors tend to drive hiring at this level because they face complex and evolving regulatory environments, high transaction volume, or rapid growth that requires experienced in-house legal support rather than exclusive reliance on outside counsel.
