About Us
Visiting Angels Central San Diego provides in-home care that helps older adults age in place with dignity - from light companionship to hands-on personal care, post-surgical recovery, memory care, and hospice support. We've been serving families across Central San Diego since 2018, and today our growing team of caregivers delivers hundreds of hours of care each week to clients and their families throughout the community.
We've earned multiple Activated Insights (formerly Home Care Pulse) awards for best reputation and were named a Top 100 Home Care Company in North America. But what we're proudest of is this: our caregivers stay with us for years, many for 6 to 8, because we believe caregivers deserve to be cared for just as intentionally as our clients. Hands-on, people-first philosophy runs through everything we do.
The Role
We're looking for a General Manager to help lead our agency's day-to-day operations and support our continued growth. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who wants to build something meaningful, not just manage a business, but help shape the culture and quality of care that families in our community depend on.
As General Manager, you'll own the full operational picture: overseeing scheduling and staffing, supporting client and caregiver satisfaction, strengthening relationships with referral partners, and managing the day-to-day rhythm of the office. You'll work closely with our leadership team to keep the agency running smoothly while helping us grow responsibly and sustainably.
What You'll Do
- Oversee daily operations, including staffing, scheduling, and office management, to ensure consistent, high-quality care delivery
- Monitor and improve client and caregiver satisfaction, using feedback and survey data as tools for continuous improvement
- Support and strengthen referral partner relationships with geriatric care managers, skilled nursing facilities, and assisted living communities
- Help recruit, onboard, and retain caregivers, in partnership with our "hire for heart, train for skill" philosophy
- Manage budgets and contribute to P&L performance and growth planning
- Ensure compliance with state and local home care regulations
- Step in to problem-solve client, family, or staffing issues with empathy and sound judgment
- Represent the agency's culture and values in every interaction, internal and external
What We're Looking For
- Experience in home care, senior care, or a related healthcare/social services setting is strongly preferred
- Solid operations management background, including P&L accountability, staffing oversight, and process improvement
- Healthcare, nursing, or social work background is a plus, though not required
- Strong interpersonal skills; this role requires empathy, clear communication, and comfort navigating emotionally sensitive situations with clients and families
- Proven ability to lead and retain a team, ideally in a service-based or care-based environment
- Comfortable with the operational side of the business: scheduling systems, budgets, compliance, and reporting
- A genuine alignment with our mission of helping people age in place with dignity
Compensation & Benefits
- $85,000-$110,000/year, based on experience
- Performance bonus
- Health insurance
- Paid time off and paid holidays
How to Apply
Interested candidates should submit a resume and a brief note about why this role speaks to you. We're looking for someone who sees this as more than a job, who wants to help lead a team that genuinely believes in what we do.

General Manager Jobs in San Diego: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a general manager job in San Diego?
The most direct path is targeting San Diego's hospitality, healthcare, and defense-adjacent services sectors, which consistently post general manager openings year-round. Mission Valley, Downtown's Gaslamp Quarter, and Kearny Mesa are dense with hiring employers. Candidates who stand out typically bring P&L ownership experience, familiarity with high-volume operations, and ties to San Diego's tourism or biotech-adjacent service economy.
Which companies hire general managers in San Diego?
San Diego general manager roles are posted by Domino's, Sentral, and Benihana and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. San Diego's mix of hotel groups, regional restaurant chains, healthcare networks, and mid-size tech service firms means general manager openings appear across a wide range of employer types and sizes.
Are there remote general manager jobs in San Diego?
Yes, though remote general manager work is less common for roles requiring on-site leadership of teams, facilities, or customer operations. About 100% of general manager openings tied to San Diego are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and these tend to concentrate in e-commerce, SaaS, and multi-unit retail management where strategic oversight can be done off-site.
How can I get a general manager job in San Diego with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through assistant manager or operations supervisor roles at San Diego's hotel groups, restaurant chains, and retail operators in Mission Valley or the Gaslamp Quarter. These employers regularly promote from within, and managing a high-traffic shift builds the P&L and team leadership exposure that local hiring managers look for when filling the next GM opening.
