Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Green Card Sponsorship in Acute Care Nurse Practitioner
Verify your credentials meet ACNP licensing requirements
State boards require ANCC or AANP acute care certification plus a valid RN license before PERM can proceed. Get credential evaluation through CGFNS early, since incomplete evaluations are among the most common causes of PERM delays for internationally trained NPs.
Target health systems with established PERM filing history
Large academic medical centers and multi-hospital networks file PERM petitions regularly for advanced practice roles. Ask directly during interviews whether the employer has an immigration counsel relationship and has sponsored NPs at the EB-2 or EB-3 level before.
Search for sponsoring employers using Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate lets you filter Acute Care Nurse Practitioner roles by green card sponsorship history so you're applying to employers who have already navigated PERM for this job category, not guessing based on job postings alone.
Understand how prevailing wage affects your offer negotiation
Your employer must pay at least the DOL prevailing wage for your geographic area and job zone before PERM is certified. Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the Level II or Level III wage for your target city before you accept an offer.
Clarify who controls the PERM job description before signing
The PERM application locks in a specific job description and worksite. If your duties shift significantly after filing, the employer may need to refile. Confirm with your employer's immigration attorney that the posted PERM role matches your actual acute care responsibilities.
File for adjustment of status as early as your priority date allows
Once your I-140 is approved and a visa number is available in the monthly Visa Bulletin, you can file Form I-485 to adjust status without leaving the U.S. Check USCIS monthly for your EB-3 or EB-2 cutoff date, especially if you were born in a backlogged country.
Green Card Acute Care Nurse Practitioner: Frequently Asked Questions
Do Acute Care Nurse Practitioner roles qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Both categories apply, depending on the employer's requirements. EB-3 covers professionals with a bachelor's degree or higher, and most ACNP positions qualify at this level. EB-2 applies if the role requires a master's degree as a minimum, which many acute care NP positions do. USCIS evaluates the specific job requirements listed in the PERM application, not just your credentials.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B sponsorship for an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner?
H-1B visa sponsorship is temporary and subject to an annual lottery, while PERM-based green card sponsorship is permanent and has no lottery. EB-3 has no annual numerical cap on petitions, only on visa issuance per country. For many nationalities, EB-3 processing results in a faster path to permanent residency than waiting years on H-1B extensions, and the sponsored status can't lapse if you change hospital systems within a qualifying timeframe.
How long does the PERM labor certification process take for an NP role?
DOL analyst review for PERM applications is currently averaging more than a year in many cases, though straightforward filings can move faster. After PERM certification, your employer files the I-140 petition with USCIS, which adds several more months. Your total timeline to adjustment of status depends on your country of birth and whether your EB-2 or EB-3 priority date is current in the monthly Visa Bulletin.
Where can I find Acute Care Nurse Practitioner jobs where the employer has green card sponsorship experience?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. You can filter ACNP roles by employers with a documented history of PERM and I-140 filings, so you're targeting health systems that have successfully sponsored advanced practice nurses before, rather than relying on vague job posting language about visa willingness.
Can I switch employers after my I-140 is approved without losing my green card progress?
Under AC21 portability, you can change employers after your I-485 has been pending for 180 days or more, as long as the new role is in the same or a similar occupational classification. For ACNPs, this typically means another advanced practice nursing or acute care clinical role. Consult an immigration attorney before making any move to confirm your specific petition qualifies for portability.
