Android Engineer Green Card Jobs
Android Engineer roles qualify for EB-2 and EB-3 green card sponsorship when the position requires a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science or a related field. Employers file a PERM labor certification with DOL before submitting the I-140 petition, permanently sponsoring you for U.S. residency rather than a temporary work authorization.

Who We Are:
The App Platforms team plays a pivotal role in the seamless functioning of Wayfair’s suite of 10+ native Android apps. We act as a force multiplier for the rest of the mobile organization. While we own the "paved road" infrastructure that ensures efficient builds and releases on a high-velocity weekly cadence, our primary mission is providing the core libraries, frameworks, and architecture that feature teams rely on to build delightful user experiences.
The Role:
We are seeking an experienced Android Engineer III who is passionate about "how things work under the hood". Unlike a typical product role focused on customer-facing features, this role lives at the boundary of Mobile Engineering.
You will spend the majority of your time architecting and evolving shared codebases, from Design Systems to Networking layers, while also providing critical support for the CI/CD tooling (Gradle/Buildkite/GitHub) that delivers our apps.
What You'll Do:
Core Frameworks & Architecture (Primary Focus ~70%):
- Architect & Evolve Libraries: Lead the development of critical frameworks used by all feature teams, including our Networking Framework (Apollo/GraphQL), Logging, and Feature Toggle systems.
- Design System Engineering: Champion UI consistency by maintaining and upgrading our reusable Design System components, specifically focusing on the adoption and architecture of Jetpack Compose.
- Testing Strategy: Contribute to app stability by enhancing our Testing Frameworks, specifically tooling for Unit, UI (Espresso), and Snapshot testing execution.
- Privacy & Compliance: Lead the technical implementation of privacy standards, including Google Play Data Safety requirements and GDPR tracking policies.
Infrastructure & Developer Experience (Secondary Focus ~30%):
- Build System Support: Assist in maintaining our Gradle build logic and CI/CD pipeline (Buildkite). You will specifically help monitor and manage our Merge Trains/GitHub Merge Queues to ensure code merges remain unblocked and efficient.
- Tooling Automation: Identify opportunities to automate workflows using local tooling (scripts, plugins) to increase developer productivity.
- Release Operations: Collaborate with the team on release reporting and troubleshooting issues with the release process to maintain our weekly release cadence.
What You'll Bring:
- Experience: 5+ years of professional Android software development experience.
- High-Velocity Background: Proven experience working on large-scale mobile applications that ship on a weekly (or faster) release cadence.
- Technical Mastery: Fluency in Kotlin and Java, with a deep understanding of architecture patterns (MVVM, MVI, Clean) and Android SDK internals.
- Efficiency Mindset: Experience leveraging AI-driven development tools (e.g., Cursor, Junie.ai) to accelerate coding workflows, refactoring, and documentation.
- Platform Curiosity: An interest in deep-diving into how apps are built, not just how they look. You are curious about build tools (Gradle, Android Studio) and dependency management.
- Tooling Familiarity: Experience or strong interest in CI/CD systems (e.g., Buildkite, Jenkins) and scripting languages (Bash, Python, or Ruby).
Nice to Have:
- Experience with GraphQL (Apollo).
- Deep experience with Jetpack Compose architecture.
- Experience configuring and optimizing GitHub Merge Queues for large teams.
- Experience writing custom Gradle plugins or scripts to automate manual tasks.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Green Card Sponsorship as an Android Engineer
Document your Android specializations before applying
Gather evidence of your technical depth: published apps, contributions to open-source Android projects, and any architecture-level responsibilities. PERM audits scrutinize whether your credentials match the employer's minimum requirements, so misalignment here stalls the entire filing.
Target employers with active PERM filing history
Search the DOL's PERM disclosure data to identify companies that have filed labor certifications for software engineering roles before. Employers with zero PERM history face a steeper internal approval process, which often kills sponsorship conversations before an offer is made.
Find green card sponsoring Android roles on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter Android Engineer positions by employers with EB-2 and EB-3 sponsorship history. This surfaces roles where the hiring manager already understands the PERM timeline, cutting weeks off your job search.
Clarify SOC code assignment with your employer early
PERM filings for Android Engineers typically fall under a Software Developers SOC code, which affects the prevailing wage your employer must pay. Confirm the DOL classification before the labor certification is filed, since reclassification after filing restarts the clock.
Verify the prevailing wage before accepting an offer
Use the OFLC Wage Search to check the Level I through Level IV prevailing wage for your SOC code and work location. If your offered salary falls below the DOL-certified level, your employer must increase it before PERM can be submitted.
Understand how EB-3 priority dates affect your timeline
For most countries outside India and China, EB-3 priority dates are current or close to current, meaning your green card process can move quickly after I-140 approval. Confirm your country's cutoff date in the monthly Visa Bulletin before committing to a multi-year sponsorship plan.

Find Android Engineer JobsAndroid Engineer Green Card Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an Android Engineer role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Most Android Engineer positions qualify for EB-3 as skilled workers requiring a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field. Roles requiring a master's degree or demonstrating advanced research components may qualify for EB-2. The specific degree requirement written into the PERM job description determines which category applies, so the job duties and minimum requirements your employer files are critical.
How does PERM green card sponsorship differ from H-1B for an Android Engineer?
H-1B is a temporary work visa with an annual lottery cap and a six-year maximum stay without further action. PERM-based EB-2 and EB-3 sponsorship leads to permanent residency with no annual cap at the petition level, though visa number availability depends on your birth country. The PERM process also locks in a priority date from the labor certification filing, which can run concurrently with H-1B employment while your green card processes.
How long does the PERM and green card process take for Android Engineers?
DOL currently processes standard PERM applications in roughly 12 to 18 months, though audit selections extend this timeline significantly. After PERM approval, your employer files the I-140 petition with USCIS, which takes several months under standard processing. For applicants born outside India and China, adjustment of status or consular processing can often begin immediately after I-140 approval, putting total timelines in the two to three year range in straightforward cases.
Where can I find Android Engineer jobs that offer green card sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lets you search Android Engineer roles specifically filtered by employers with EB-2 and EB-3 sponsorship history, so you're not wasting time on positions where sponsorship is theoretical rather than practiced. Targeting companies with documented PERM filing activity dramatically increases the chance that your offer conversation includes a concrete sponsorship commitment rather than a vague promise to explore options later.
Can my employer start the PERM process while I'm on H-1B status?
Yes. Employers can file a PERM labor certification for you regardless of your current visa status, and many Android Engineers begin the green card process while working on H-1B. Once your I-140 is approved and your priority date is current, you can file for adjustment of status or consular processing. An approved I-140 also strengthens your position for H-1B extensions beyond the standard six-year cap under AC21 portability rules.
