Align your degree to the role
PERM requires your employer to document that the position genuinely requires a degree in a specific field. A computer science or software engineering degree maps cleanly to App Developer roles; a general business degree may trigger an RFE at the I-140 stage.
Target employers with established PERM pipelines
Search DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool to identify employers who have certified PERM applications for software development roles. Companies that filed recently are operationally ready to sponsor again, reducing the risk that your offer stalls in an unfamiliar process.
Understand how EB-3 differs from H-1B sponsorship
Unlike H-1B visa, PERM-based green card sponsorship has no annual lottery. EB-3 processing for most countries outside India and China moves steadily, and your permanent residency is the end result, not a temporary status that requires renewal or re-filing every few years.
Use Migrate Mate to find green card sponsors
Search on Migrate Mate to filter App Developer roles by employers with active EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship history. This gets you directly to companies that have completed PERM filings for similar roles, cutting out guesswork during your job search.
Negotiate PERM filing into your offer terms
Ask during the offer stage whether the employer will commit to initiating PERM within a defined timeframe, typically six to twelve months of your start date. Some employers sponsor only after a performance review period, which can delay your priority date by a full year or more.
Verify the prevailing wage tier before accepting
PERM locks your employer into paying at least the DOL prevailing wage for your specific role and work location. Check the OFLC Wage Search for the Level I through Level IV wage range for App Developers in your metro area before signing an offer letter.
Green Card App Developer: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an App Developer role qualify for both EB-2 and EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Yes. If the position requires a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field, it typically qualifies under EB-3 as a professional role. If your employer structures the position to require an advanced degree or you have demonstrated specialized credentials beyond a four-year degree, EB-2 becomes the applicable category. Your employer's attorney determines which classification fits the job description.
How does PERM green card sponsorship differ from H-1B for App Developers?
H-1B is a temporary work visa subject to an annual lottery and six-year maximum duration. PERM-based green card sponsorship has no lottery, no annual cap at the EB-3 level for most nationalities, and results in lawful permanent residency. The trade-off is timeline: PERM labor certification plus I-140 adjudication typically takes one to two years before an immigrant visa becomes available, depending on your country of birth.
What documentation do I need to support my App Developer green card application?
Your employer drives the PERM filing and must document the recruitment process, the prevailing wage determination, and the minimum requirements for the role. You'll need to supply your degree certificates, transcripts, and employment history to demonstrate you meet those requirements. If your degree is from outside the U.S., a credential evaluation from a recognized agency is typically required to establish equivalency.
Where can I find App Developer jobs with green card sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lets you search App Developer roles filtered specifically by employers with EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship history, so you're not sifting through listings from companies that have never filed a PERM application. Focusing your search on employers with a documented sponsorship track record significantly reduces the risk of an offer that stalls or falls through before your I-140 is filed.
Can I switch employers after my App Developer PERM is filed?
Once your I-140 is approved and your priority date has been established for 180 days or more, portability rules under AC21 allow you to change employers, provided the new role is in the same or a similar occupational classification. App Developer and broader software development roles generally share the same SOC classification, which gives you meaningful flexibility when your green card case is well advanced.
