Green Card Application Support Specialist Jobs
Application Support Specialist roles qualify for EB-2 and EB-3 green card sponsorship when the position requires a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field. Employers file PERM labor certification with the DOL before sponsoring permanent residency, making this one of the more accessible IT support paths to a green card.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Green Card Sponsorship as an Application Support Specialist
Align your degree to the role
PERM requires your degree field to match the job. A general IT or computer science degree supports most Application Support Specialist petitions, but a degree in an unrelated field can trigger PERM denials even when your work experience is strong.
Target employers with active PERM filings
Search the DOL's OFLC Wage Search to find companies that have filed PERM applications for Application Support or IT support roles. Employers with recent filings have an established sponsorship workflow, which shortens your path from offer to petition.
Confirm the EB-2 versus EB-3 tier early
Most Application Support Specialist roles sponsor at the EB-3 skilled worker level. EB-2 applies if the position genuinely requires an advanced degree. Clarifying this before accepting an offer lets you evaluate your priority date timeline accurately.
Use Migrate Mate to find sponsoring employers
Search Migrate Mate to filter Application Support Specialist jobs by green card sponsorship history. You'll see which employers have filed EB-2 or EB-3 petitions for this role, so you're not guessing about sponsorship willingness during the interview process.
Request the prevailing wage determination upfront
Before PERM is filed, your employer must obtain a prevailing wage determination from OFLC. Ask which wage level they intend to file at. Level I and II determinations are common for this role and affect both PERM compliance and your offered salary structure.
Prepare your employment history documentation now
USCIS scrutinizes I-140 petitions for Application Support roles when prior positions weren't formally titled. Gather reference letters, pay stubs, and official job descriptions from past employers before your petition stage to avoid delays from USCIS Requests for Evidence.
Green Card Application Support Specialist: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an Application Support Specialist role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Most Application Support Specialist positions qualify at the EB-3 skilled worker level, which requires a bachelor's degree or two years of training and experience. EB-2 sponsorship is available when the role genuinely requires an advanced degree or the employer can demonstrate a business necessity for higher qualifications. Your employer's HR or immigration counsel will determine which category applies based on the actual job requirements.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B sponsorship for this role?
H-1B visa is a temporary nonimmigrant status requiring renewal every three years, subject to the annual lottery. An employer-sponsored green card through PERM leads to permanent residency with no renewal requirement and no cap concerns at the EB-3 level for most countries. The tradeoff is timeline: PERM labor certification alone can take six to twelve months before the I-140 petition even begins, whereas H-1B approval can happen within a few months for cap-exempt or premium-processed cases.
What does the PERM process look like for an Application Support Specialist?
Your employer files an Application for Permanent Employment Certification with the DOL, documenting that no minimally qualified U.S. worker was available for the role. This involves a recruitment phase with specific advertising requirements. Once DOL certifies the PERM, your employer files the I-140 immigrant petition with USCIS. You can then apply for adjustment of status or an immigrant visa once your priority date becomes current on the Visa Bulletin.
Where can I find Application Support Specialist jobs with green card sponsorship?
Migrate Mate filters job listings by verified green card sponsorship history, so you can identify employers who have actually filed PERM or EB-3 petitions for Application Support roles rather than relying on vague job postings. Targeting employers with a documented sponsorship track record reduces the risk of pursuing roles where sponsorship is aspirational rather than committed.
Can my employer start the green card process while I'm on H-1B status?
Yes. Employers routinely initiate PERM labor certification for workers already on H-1B status. Filing I-140 while on H-1B also activates AC21 portability protections after 180 days, meaning you can change employers in a similar role without losing your priority date. H-1B extensions beyond the standard six-year limit are also available once the I-140 is approved and your priority date isn't yet current.
