Green Card Applications Specialist Jobs
Applications Specialist roles qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship when the position requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant field and the employer files a PERM labor certification. Sponsorship leads to permanent residency, not a temporary work status, making it a stronger long-term commitment from both sides.

Align your degree to the job requirements
PERM requires the employer to show the role genuinely needs a specific degree. A degree in information systems, computer science, or a closely related field strengthens your EB-2 or EB-3 case and reduces RFE risk during I-140 adjudication.
Target employers with active PERM filing history
Applications Specialist roles appear across healthcare IT, enterprise software, and government contracting. Search DOL PERM disclosure data to confirm a company has sponsored similar technical roles before, not just software engineers or general IT staff.
Use Migrate Mate to find sponsoring employers
Search Migrate Mate to filter Applications Specialist openings by employers with documented green card sponsorship history. This saves you from applying to companies that only sponsor H-1B visas but have never filed a PERM.
Verify your SOC code before the PERM is filed
PERM filings for Applications Specialists typically use SOC codes tied to computer support, systems analysis, or software quality roles. Confirm your offer letter's job duties match O*NET benchmarks for the code your employer plans to use, or the DOL may audit the filing.
Negotiate who covers PERM recruitment costs
Federal regulations prohibit you from paying PERM filing or attorney fees. Before accepting an offer, confirm your employer covers all DOL recruitment advertising and legal costs. Some smaller employers are unaware of this restriction and attempt to split fees.
Check prevailing wage before the offer stage
Run the OFLC Wage Search for your target metro area and SOC code before you receive an offer. If the employer's offered wage falls below the DOL prevailing wage level, USCIS will deny the I-140 petition even after PERM certification clears.
Green Card Applications Specialist: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an Applications Specialist role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship?
Most Applications Specialist positions qualify under EB-3 as skilled workers requiring a bachelor's degree. If the role requires an advanced degree or the employer can document that the position normally requires a master's or equivalent, EB-2 may apply. The DOL prevailing wage determination and the job description filed with PERM define which category fits your specific offer.
How is green card sponsorship different from H-1B for this role?
H-1B gives you temporary status in three-year increments and requires annual cap exposure at renewal if you change employers. EB-3 green card sponsorship through PERM and I-140 leads to permanent residency with no annual cap at the petition level for most nationalities. The tradeoff is timeline: PERM takes six months to two years before you even reach adjustment of status, while H-1B approval can happen in weeks.
What does the PERM labor certification process look like for this job?
Your employer posts the Applications Specialist role through a DOL-mandated recruitment process to prove no qualified U.S. workers are available. After completing recruitment, they submit the PERM application to DOL. If certified, they file an I-140 immigrant petition with USCIS. Once that's approved and a visa number is available, you apply for adjustment of status or an immigrant visa abroad.
Where can I find Applications Specialist jobs with green card sponsorship?
Use Migrate Mate to search Applications Specialist roles filtered by employers with verified PERM and green card sponsorship history. This approach targets companies that have already navigated the DOL and USCIS process for this type of role, which significantly reduces the risk of an employer backing out or mishandling your petition mid-process.
Can my employer start the PERM process before I have H-1B status?
Yes. PERM has no requirement that you hold a specific nonimmigrant visa status when the employer files. You can be on F-1 OPT, H-1B, L-1 visa, or another status. What matters is that you're authorized to work when employment begins and that you meet the minimum requirements listed in the PERM job description at the time the application is filed.
