Credential your Au.D. for PERM filing
PERM requires your degree to directly correspond to the Audiologist job duties. If you earned your Au.D. outside the U.S., get a credential evaluation from a NACES-member organization before your employer files with DOL to avoid a certification delay.
Verify your state licensure before applying
Every U.S. state requires audiologists to hold an active clinical license. Confirm your foreign training satisfies each target state's licensure prerequisites early, since employers filing PERM typically list licensure as a minimum job requirement, which affects your EB-2 or EB-3 category determination.
Target hospital systems and VA facilities
Large hospital networks and Department of Veterans Affairs medical centers routinely sponsor audiologists for green cards because chronic staffing shortages make PERM recruitment efforts easier to document. Prioritize employers with in-house immigration counsel or established HR sponsorship workflows.
Search sponsoring employers through Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter Audiologist openings by employers with active green card filing history. Targeting companies that have already navigated PERM for similar roles cuts the time you spend vetting sponsorship willingness from your candidate side.
Confirm the job description matches DOL wage levels
Before accepting an offer, ask your prospective employer to check the prevailing wage using the OFLC Wage Search tool. A wage level set too low can trigger a DOL audit during PERM, stalling your green card timeline by months or longer.
Negotiate PERM filing timing into your offer
Employers can file PERM at any point, but some delay until after a probationary period. Ask your employer to commit to a filing start date in writing before you accept, because the clock on your priority date only begins once DOL receives the certified application.
Green Card Audiologist: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an Audiologist role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship?
Most Audiologist positions qualify for EB-2 because the role standardly requires a Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.), which is an advanced degree under USCIS definitions. If your employer's posted minimum requirement is a master's degree or a bachelor's degree with substantial experience, the role may fall into EB-3 instead. The job description filed with DOL during PERM determines which category applies.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B for Audiologists?
Green card sponsorship through PERM, I-140, and adjustment of status leads to permanent residency rather than a temporary work authorization period. Unlike the H-1B visa, EB-3 sponsorship has no annual lottery, and EB-2 processing is not subject to a cap for many nationalities. The tradeoff is timeline: PERM labor certification alone typically takes six to twelve months before USCIS even begins reviewing the I-140 petition.
What does the PERM process require from an Audiologist candidate?
PERM requires the employer to conduct a supervised recruitment campaign showing no qualified U.S. workers are available for the role. As the candidate, you need to document that your credentials meet every minimum requirement listed in the DOL-approved job description. Your Au.D. degree, state clinical license, and any specialty certifications should be gathered and verified before your employer begins the recruitment window.
How can I find Audiologist jobs where employers are already willing to sponsor a green card?
Migrate Mate lets you search Audiologist openings filtered by employers with a documented green card sponsorship history. Focusing on these employers avoids lengthy conversations about whether sponsorship is possible and lets you move directly to evaluating fit. Hospital systems, hearing care networks, and university medical centers are among the employer types that appear most frequently in green card filing data for this role.
Can I stay in the U.S. while my Audiologist green card application is pending?
Yes, provided you maintain a valid nonimmigrant status such as H-1B or O-1 visa while your PERM and I-140 are being processed. Once your priority date becomes current and you file for adjustment of status with USCIS, you can apply for an Employment Authorization Document, which lets you continue working regardless of your underlying visa status. Consult an immigration attorney about bridging any gaps between visa expiration and EAD issuance.
