Green Card Bridge Engineer Jobs
Bridge Engineer roles qualify for EB-2 and EB-3 green card sponsorship through the PERM labor certification process, which requires your employer to document that no qualified U.S. workers are available before filing your I-140 petition. Civil engineering firms, state DOTs, and infrastructure contractors regularly sponsor foreign professionals for permanent residency.

Translate your credentials for PERM compliance
If your engineering degree is from outside the U.S., get it evaluated by a NACES-accredited credential evaluator before your employer starts PERM. A mismatch between your degree level and the job requirements is one of the most common causes of PERM denial for engineers.
Target employers with active PERM filing history
State DOTs, federal contractors, and large civil engineering firms file PERM applications regularly for bridge and structural roles. Search DOL PERM disclosure data by SOC code 17-2051 to identify which employers have sponsored Bridge Engineers in the last two fiscal years.
Verify your PE license transfers before accepting an offer
Many PERM job requirements for Bridge Engineers specify a Professional Engineer license for the state of employment. Confirm your foreign credentials or out-of-state PE license can be transferred or recognized before the employer locks in the prevailing wage determination job description.
Check prevailing wage before negotiating your offer
Your employer must pay at least the DOL prevailing wage for your role and location. Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the Level I through Level IV wages for SOC 17-2051 in your metro area before salary discussions, so you know the floor your offer must meet.
Find sponsoring Bridge Engineer employers on Migrate Mate
Search Migrate Mate to filter Bridge Engineer roles by employers with documented green card sponsorship history. This lets you skip cold outreach and focus your applications on firms already familiar with the PERM and I-140 process for engineering positions.
Understand EB-2 versus EB-3 filing before your I-140
EB-2 requires a master's degree or bachelor's degree plus five years of progressive experience; EB-3 covers roles requiring a bachelor's degree. Your employer files the I-140 under whichever category matches the job requirements set during PERM, not necessarily your highest credential.
Green Card Bridge Engineer: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Bridge Engineer role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Bridge Engineer positions typically qualify under EB-3 when the employer requires a bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering, and under EB-2 when the role requires a master's degree or equivalent advanced training. The sponsoring employer sets the minimum requirements during PERM labor certification, and USCIS adjudicates the I-140 petition based on those documented requirements rather than your highest credential alone.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B sponsorship for Bridge Engineers?
H-1B visa status is temporary, subject to an annual lottery, and ties you to a specific employer and role. PERM-based green card sponsorship leads to permanent residency with no annual cap at the EB-3 level for most countries. The tradeoff is timeline: PERM and I-140 processing can take one to two years before you reach adjustment of status, compared to an H-1B that can be approved in months.
What does the PERM labor certification process require from a Bridge Engineer's employer?
Your employer must conduct a DOL-supervised recruitment campaign to demonstrate no qualified U.S. workers are available for the role. This includes posting the position through specific channels, documenting applicant rejections with lawful reasons, and submitting the ETA 9089 form. The job requirements used in PERM must match what you actually need to perform the work, which is why your engineering credentials and license requirements matter at this stage.
Which employers regularly sponsor Bridge Engineers for green cards?
State departments of transportation, federal infrastructure contractors, and large civil engineering consultancies file PERM applications for bridge and structural engineering roles on a recurring basis. You can identify these employers by searching DOL PERM disclosure data filtered by SOC code 17-2051. Migrate Mate also surfaces Bridge Engineer roles with documented green card sponsorship history, making it easier to target firms already experienced with the EB-2 and EB-3 process.
Can a foreign Bridge Engineer self-petition for a green card without employer sponsorship?
Most Bridge Engineer applicants require employer-sponsored PERM and I-140 petitions because self-petition options like EB-1A or EB-2 National Interest Waiver require demonstrating either extraordinary ability or that your work benefits the United States in ways that justify waiving the labor market test. A Bridge Engineer working on nationally significant infrastructure projects could potentially qualify for a National Interest Waiver, but this requires substantial documentation and is evaluated case by case.
