Design Engineer Green Card Jobs
Design Engineer roles qualify for EB-2 and EB-3 green card sponsorship when the position requires a bachelor's degree or higher in mechanical, electrical, or a related engineering discipline. Employers file a PERM labor certification with DOL before sponsoring permanent residency, and your engineering credentials and specialized design experience directly shape which category fits your profile.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Green Card Sponsorship as a Design Engineer
Align your credentials to PERM requirements early
PERM requires your degree field to match the job duties. A mechanical engineering degree supporting a product design role is straightforward, but a general science degree rarely clears DOL scrutiny. Get a credential evaluation before you apply.
Target employers with active EB-3 PERM filings
Search the OFLC Wage Search to see which employers have filed PERM applications for Design Engineer roles. Companies with recent filings already understand the process and are far less likely to withdraw sponsorship mid-petition.
Use Migrate Mate to filter green card sponsoring employers
Search on Migrate Mate to find Design Engineer openings at companies with documented EB-2 and EB-3 sponsorship history. Filtering by sponsorship type saves weeks of outreach to employers who have never filed PERM.
Confirm your role maps to the right O*NET code
PERM filings reference O*NET occupation codes, and Design Engineer duties can fall under multiple codes depending on your industry. Confirm your job description aligns with the correct O*NET profile before your employer begins the prevailing-wage determination step.
Negotiate a start date that accommodates PERM timelines
PERM recruitment and DOL processing typically takes six to twelve months before an I-140 can even be filed. Raise this timeline during the offer stage so both sides agree on realistic expectations before you sign.
Request EB-2 consideration if your role requires an advanced degree
If the Design Engineer position genuinely requires a master's degree or the employer will accept a bachelor's plus five years of progressive experience, ask whether EB-2 rather than EB-3 fits the job description. EB-2 priority dates move faster for most countries.

Find Design Engineer JobsDesign Engineer Green Card Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Do Design Engineer roles typically qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Most Design Engineer positions qualify for EB-3 when they require a bachelor's degree in engineering. EB-2 applies when the role genuinely requires an advanced degree or the employer can document that an advanced degree is standard for that specialty. Product design roles in aerospace, medical devices, or semiconductor manufacturing are commonly filed under EB-2 due to the technical depth required.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B for Design Engineers?
H-1B is a temporary work visa requiring annual cap slots and lottery selection, while EB-2 and EB-3 green card sponsorship leads to permanent residency with no annual lottery. PERM-based green card cases take longer overall, often two to four years including the I-140 and adjustment of status stages, but the outcome is permanent rather than a renewable temporary status tied to a single employer.
Where can I find Design Engineer jobs at companies that sponsor green cards?
Migrate Mate is built specifically to surface Design Engineer openings at employers with EB-2 and EB-3 sponsorship history. Rather than sorting through general job boards and guessing at company immigration policies, you can filter directly by sponsorship type and engineering discipline to reach employers who have already committed to sponsoring permanent residency.
What does the PERM process look like for a Design Engineer role?
Your employer first requests a prevailing-wage determination from DOL, then conducts a regulated recruitment campaign to show no qualified U.S. workers were available for the role. If recruitment passes, DOL certifies the PERM application. The employer then files an I-140 petition with USCIS on your behalf. Depending on your country of birth, you may be able to file for adjustment of status concurrently or must wait for a visa number to become available.
Can a Design Engineer job offer be rescinded after PERM is filed?
PERM is tied to the employer, not to you personally, so if the company withdraws the offer or closes the position before your I-140 is approved, the petition typically terminates. Once an I-140 is approved and your priority date is current, you gain more flexibility under AC21 portability rules, which allow you to change employers to a similar role without restarting the entire process.
