Business Development Lead roles qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship when the position requires a bachelor's degree or higher in business, marketing, or a related field. Employers file a PERM labor certification with DOL before sponsoring you for permanent residency, making this a long-term career move rather than a temporary visa arrangement.

Document your degree's field alignment
PERM requires your degree to align with the specific Business Development Lead role. Gather transcripts showing coursework in business, marketing, or economics, and request a credential evaluation if your degree is from outside the U.S.
Target employers with active PERM filings
Search OFLC disclosure data to identify companies that have filed PERM applications for business development and sales roles. Employers already running PERM processes for similar positions are far more likely to sponsor a new hire without internal education costs.
Clarify EB-2 versus EB-3 eligibility early
If your role requires only a bachelor's degree, most employers will file under EB-3. If you hold a master's degree or can justify an advanced degree requirement for the position, EB-2 shortens your wait for applicants from most countries.
Use Migrate Mate to find sponsoring employers
Filter Business Development Lead roles by green card sponsorship history on Migrate Mate. You'll see which companies have a track record of PERM filings for this job category, cutting research time before you apply.
Negotiate green card sponsorship into your offer
Once you have a written offer, confirm in writing that the employer will initiate PERM within an agreed timeframe, typically your first year. Verbal assurances aren't binding, and USCIS processing timelines mean delays in filing directly extend your path to a green card.
Prepare for the prevailing wage determination step
Before filing PERM, your employer submits a prevailing wage request to DOL. Cross-check the expected wage for your metro area using the OFLC Wage Search and O*NET occupation data so you can flag any mismatch before it delays your case.
Green Card Business Development Lead: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Business Development Lead role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship?
It depends on the degree requirement the employer writes into the job description. If the role requires a bachelor's degree in business, marketing, or a related field, EB-3 is the standard path. If the employer can justify that the position genuinely requires a master's degree or its equivalent, EB-2 becomes available. Your specific credentials and how the employer defines the role both affect which category applies.
How does PERM green card sponsorship differ from H-1B for this role?
An H-1B visa is a temporary work visa, usually valid for three years with one extension, and subject to an annual lottery. PERM green card sponsorship leads to permanent residency with no cap concerns at the EB-3 level for most countries. The tradeoff is timeline: PERM labor certification alone takes several months, followed by I-140 adjudication, then adjustment of status or consular processing. You're building toward a permanent outcome rather than renewing temporary status.
What documents should I prepare before a Business Development Lead employer starts PERM?
Pull together your degree transcripts, any professional certifications relevant to business development, and an up-to-date resume showing progressive responsibility. If your degree is from outside the U.S., get a credential evaluation completed in advance. Your employer's immigration counsel will also need a detailed description of your job duties and the minimum requirements for the role, so having clear documentation of your qualifications speeds up that step.
Where can I find Business Development Lead jobs with green card sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lets you search specifically for Business Development Lead roles where the employer has a history of green card and PERM sponsorship. This filters out postings where sponsorship is theoretically possible but the company has no track record of following through, so you spend your time on employers who have already sponsored similar roles.
Can I switch employers after my PERM is filed but before I get my green card?
Once your I-140 has been approved and your priority date is current or close to becoming current, you may have portability rights under AC21 that allow you to change employers in the same or a similar occupational classification. Early in the process, before I-140 approval, leaving your sponsoring employer typically requires starting PERM over with a new employer. Confirm the specifics with an immigration attorney before making any job change.
