Green Card Cancer Registrar Jobs
Cancer Registrar roles qualify for employment-based green card sponsorship through EB-2 or EB-3, with employers filing PERM labor certification to document that no qualified U.S. workers are available. Hospitals, cancer centers, and health systems are the primary sponsors. CTR certification and oncology data management expertise strengthen your case for EB-2 classification.

Earn your CTR before applying
PERM labor certification requires employers to document your qualifications precisely. Holding an active Certified Tumor Registrar credential before the process begins gives the employer a concrete, defensible basis for the job requirements listed in the PERM filing.
Target NCI-designated cancer centers first
National Cancer Institute-designated centers process high registry volumes and maintain dedicated compliance teams familiar with PERM and I-140 sponsorship. Their HR departments are more likely to have an established green card sponsorship workflow than smaller community hospitals.
Request EB-2 classification during offer negotiation
If your role requires analyzing complex oncology datasets and your position demands an advanced degree in health information management or a related field, ask the employer to specify EB-2 rather than defaulting to EB-3. That distinction affects your priority date and total wait time.
Search green card sponsorship history on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter Cancer Registrar roles by employers with active PERM filing history. Targeting employers who have already sponsored this specific occupation reduces the risk of a sponsor backing out mid-process due to unfamiliarity with registry role requirements.
Verify prevailing wage before the employer files
DOL requires employers to pay the prevailing wage for your work location and job level before PERM is certified. Cross-check your offered salary against the OFLC Wage Search using SOC code 29-2099 so you know whether the offer meets the threshold before your employer submits.
Confirm the employer's E-Verify enrollment early
PERM-sponsoring employers must be enrolled in E-Verify to later sponsor adjustment of status. Ask during the offer stage, not after signing. An employer not enrolled in E-Verify will face delays or be unable to complete your green card process through USCIS.
Green Card Cancer Registrar: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Cancer Registrar role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Both categories are available depending on how the employer defines the position. EB-3 covers skilled workers with a bachelor's degree or equivalent, which fits most CTR-credentialed registrars. EB-2 applies when the role genuinely requires an advanced degree in health information management, oncology informatics, or a closely related field. The employer's job description and your credentials together determine which category fits.
How does PERM green card sponsorship differ from H-1B for this role?
PERM sponsorship leads to permanent residency rather than a temporary status tied to an employer's annual H-1B visa filing cycle. There is no lottery for EB-3, and most countries outside India and China face no significant backlog at that preference level. The tradeoff is time: PERM labor certification, I-140 approval, and adjustment of status together typically take two to four years, longer than an initial H-1B approval.
Which employers most commonly sponsor Cancer Registrar green cards?
NCI-designated comprehensive cancer centers, large academic medical systems, and multi-hospital health networks are the most active sponsors. These organizations maintain ongoing registry operations that require stable, credentialed staff, which makes long-term sponsorship practical. Smaller community hospitals sponsor less frequently because registry teams are smaller and PERM compliance costs are harder to absorb.
How can I find Cancer Registrar jobs that include green card sponsorship?
Use Migrate Mate to search Cancer Registrar openings filtered by employers with documented PERM filing history. Filtering by sponsorship history rather than applying broadly saves time and avoids employers who list the role without the HR infrastructure to complete a multi-year green card process for a registry professional.
Does O*NET classify Cancer Registrar as a specialty occupation for sponsorship purposes?
O*NET places Cancer Registrars under SOC code 29-2099, grouped with health information technologists. The occupation is classified as requiring specialized knowledge of medical terminology, ICD-O coding, and cancer staging systems. This classification supports the employer's argument in PERM documentation that the role requires specific education and training beyond general healthcare administration credentials.
