Verify your role meets specialty occupation standards
Conference Services Manager positions vary widely. Roles requiring a bachelor's degree in hospitality management, event planning, or a related field strengthen an EB-2 or EB-3 PERM case. Roles where any general degree satisfies requirements are harder to certify.
Target employers with convention and conference infrastructure
Hotels with dedicated event divisions, universities with large conference centers, and convention bureaus file PERM most frequently for this title. These employers have in-house HR teams familiar with the labor certification timeline and less likely to balk at the process.
Search green card sponsoring employers on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter Conference Services Manager openings by employers with active EB-2 and EB-3 PERM filing history. This narrows your search to organizations that have already run the process and understand the commitment involved.
Gather prevailing wage evidence before salary negotiations
Your employer must pay at least the DOL prevailing wage for your specific work location. Look up the wage level for your role and city using the OFLC Wage Search before your offer conversation, so you can flag any gaps early in the process.
Ask employers about PERM recruitment documentation timelines
PERM requires employers to complete a mandatory recruitment period before filing, which typically runs 30 to 180 days. Confirm whether your prospective employer has run this process before and has legal counsel ready, since delays often come from the recruitment documentation phase, not USCIS.
Use O*NET to align your job duties with the occupation profile
PERM filings succeed when your actual job duties match the certified occupation. Cross-reference your offer letter responsibilities against the O*NET profile for Conference Services Manager to catch any scope mismatches before your employer files with USCIS.
Green Card Conference Services Manager: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Conference Services Manager role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Most Conference Services Manager positions qualify under EB-3 as skilled workers requiring at least two years of training or experience. If the role specifically requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a directly related field like hospitality management or business administration, and your employer can document that requirement, EB-2 sponsorship is also possible. The PERM labor certification filing must accurately reflect the minimum requirements the employer genuinely uses when hiring.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B sponsorship for this role?
H-1B visa sponsorship is temporary and subject to an annual lottery, which creates real uncertainty for hospitality professionals. Green card sponsorship through PERM and I-140 leads to permanent residency with no annual cap at the EB-3 level for most countries outside India and China. The trade-off is timeline: PERM labor certification alone can take six to twelve months before USCIS even receives your I-140 petition, so starting conversations early with prospective employers matters.
What does the PERM process require from a Conference Services Manager candidate?
Your employer files the PERM application with DOL on your behalf after completing a mandatory recruitment phase to demonstrate no qualified U.S. workers are available for the role. You need to meet every minimum requirement listed in the job description exactly. Keep copies of your degree, transcripts, and professional references organized, since your employer's attorney will need them to prepare the filing and respond to any DOL audit requests.
How do I find Conference Services Manager jobs where the employer will sponsor a green card?
Many hospitality employers are open to sponsorship but don't advertise it in job postings. Use Migrate Mate to search specifically for Conference Services Manager roles tied to employers with documented EB-2 and EB-3 PERM filing history. Targeting employers who have successfully run the process before reduces the risk of an offer falling through once the legal and financial commitment of PERM becomes clear.
Can I switch employers after my green card is approved or while the case is pending?
Once USCIS approves your I-140 petition, you have some flexibility. If your I-485 adjustment of status application has been pending for 180 days or more, portability rules under AC21 let you change to a same or similar occupation without restarting the process. Changing jobs before I-140 approval typically requires your new employer to file a fresh PERM case, resetting the timeline entirely.
