Green Card Construction Jobs
Construction roles in the U.S. can qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship through the PERM labor certification process, where your employer files with the DOL before petitioning USCIS. Project managers, engineers, and skilled tradespeople in construction have secured permanent residency this way, making sponsorship a realistic long-term path.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Green Card Sponsorship in Construction
Document your construction credentials before applying
Gather your degree certificates, trade licenses, and state-issued contractor credentials early. PERM filings require your employer to verify your qualifications match the role's minimum requirements, and gaps in documentation can delay or derail the process.
Target general contractors with federal project portfolios
Companies holding federal construction contracts are legally required to use E-Verify for new hires, which signals they have the compliance infrastructure to sponsor foreign workers. Federal contractors tend to have dedicated HR teams experienced in employment-based sponsorship filings.
Understand how PERM treats construction job duties
DOL's PERM process requires your employer to define your role narrowly enough to justify the hire. For construction, this often means distinguishing between supervisory roles, specialty trade work, and general labor, since each category sits in a different EB tier.
Use Migrate Mate to find construction employers sponsoring green cards
Search Migrate Mate to filter construction jobs by employers with active PERM and I-140 filing history. This removes guesswork and connects you directly with companies already experienced in employment-based sponsorship.
Ask employers about prevailing wage compliance before accepting offers
Your employer must certify your offered wage meets the DOL prevailing wage for your construction role and location. Use the OFLC Wage Search to check the applicable wage level yourself before negotiations, so you're not surprised after the offer stage.
Clarify whether your role qualifies as EB-2 or EB-3 early
Construction project managers with advanced degrees or specialized credentials may qualify under EB-2, while skilled tradespeople typically file under EB-3. Your classification affects priority date wait times, so confirm your tier with your employer before USCIS petitions begin.
Green Card Construction: Frequently Asked Questions
Can construction workers realistically get green card sponsorship from a U.S. employer?
Yes. Skilled construction workers and supervisory roles regularly qualify under EB-3 for skilled workers, and project managers or engineers with advanced degrees may qualify under EB-2. The employer initiates the PERM labor certification with DOL, then files an I-140 petition with USCIS. The process is longer than a temporary work visa but leads to permanent residency.
How does the green card process for construction jobs differ from an H-1B?
The H-1B visa is a temporary nonimmigrant visa requiring annual cap lotteries, while EB-2 and EB-3 green cards are permanent and have no lottery. Many construction roles do not meet the H-1B specialty occupation standard, but they can still qualify for EB-3 as skilled workers. The PERM process takes longer upfront, but the outcome is lawful permanent residency rather than a capped work authorization period.
What does the PERM labor certification process require from a construction employer?
Your employer must conduct a DOL-supervised recruitment process showing no qualified U.S. workers are available for your role. This includes placing specific job advertisements and documenting the results. Once DOL certifies the PERM application, your employer files an I-140 immigrant petition with USCIS on your behalf. The employer bears most of the legal and filing burden.
Where can I find construction employers that sponsor green cards?
Migrate Mate lets you search construction jobs filtered by employers with verified PERM and I-140 filing history, so you can focus your applications on companies that have already sponsored foreign workers in your field. Targeting employers with a track record of employment-based sponsorship significantly reduces the risk of starting a process that stalls midway.
Does my construction job title affect which EB category I qualify for?
Yes. Roles requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field, like civil or structural engineering, may qualify under EB-2. Most skilled trades, foremen, and supervisory construction roles qualify under EB-3 for skilled workers, which requires two or more years of training or experience. Your O*NET occupation profile and the specific duties listed in your PERM application determine your classification.
