Translate your credentials for PERM reviewers
PERM requires your foreign law degree or paralegal diploma to satisfy the job's minimum requirements. Get a credential evaluation from a NACES-member evaluator that maps your qualifications to a U.S. bachelor's degree before you apply.
Target legal departments with dedicated immigration counsel
Large corporations with in-house legal teams and law firms that already employ immigration attorneys are far more familiar with PERM filing requirements. Their HR teams won't need to be educated on the sponsorship process from scratch.
Search for EB-3 sponsors using Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters Corporate Paralegal roles by employers with active green card sponsorship history, so you spend time on applications that can realistically lead to permanent residency rather than ones that won't.
Verify the prevailing wage before accepting an offer
Your offered salary must meet or exceed the DOL prevailing wage for your specific paralegal job zone and location. Use the OFLC Wage Search to check the Level I through Level IV wage for your metro area before negotiations close.
Clarify whether EB-2 or EB-3 applies to your role
If the position requires only a bachelor's degree, it will likely be filed under EB-3. Roles requiring an advanced degree or that involve specialized legal research may qualify for EB-2, which affects your priority date and long-term timeline.
Align your start date with the PERM recruitment window
PERM labor certification requires the employer to complete recruitment and advertising before USCIS can adjudicate your I-140 petition. Ask hiring managers upfront how far along their PERM process is so your start date doesn't create a filing gap.
Green Card Corporate Paralegal: Frequently Asked Questions
Do Corporate Paralegal roles qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Most Corporate Paralegal positions qualify under EB-3, which covers professionals with a U.S. bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent. Roles requiring a Juris Doctor or an advanced degree in a legal specialty can qualify for EB-2. The classification the employer uses depends on the minimum requirements written into the job description at the time of the PERM filing.
How is the green card process different from H-1B sponsorship for paralegals?
Green card sponsorship through PERM is permanent rather than temporary. Unlike the H-1B visa, there is no lottery at the EB-3 level for many nationalities, and the employer's investment leads to lawful permanent residency rather than a visa that must be renewed. The tradeoff is a longer overall timeline: PERM labor certification alone can take six to twelve months before the I-140 petition is even filed with USCIS.
What documents should I prepare before applying for sponsored paralegal roles?
You'll need a credential evaluation confirming your foreign law degree or paralegal qualification meets U.S. bachelor's degree standards. Gather certified translations of transcripts, a detailed employment history that maps to the PERM job duties, and any bar admission certificates or paralegal certifications such as CP or CLA. Having these ready before an offer shortens the PERM preparation window significantly.
How do I find Corporate Paralegal jobs where the employer will sponsor a green card?
Migrate Mate lets you search Corporate Paralegal roles filtered by employers with verified green card sponsorship history, so you're not guessing which firms are willing to file PERM. Targeting employers who have completed PERM filings before saves months of back-and-forth during the offer stage.
Can I switch employers after my I-140 is approved but before I get my green card?
Yes. Under AC21 portability provisions, once your I-140 has been approved and your adjustment of status application has been pending for 180 days or more, you can move to a similar role in the same occupational classification without losing your priority date. Corporate Paralegal to paralegal or legal operations roles within the same SOC code generally qualifies, but consult an immigration attorney before making any employer change.
