Green Card Dentist Jobs
Dentist roles qualify for EB-2 and EB-3 green card sponsorship through the PERM labor certification process, which requires employers to document recruitment efforts before filing an I-140 petition. Dental practices, DSOs, and health systems sponsor foreign-trained dentists, and your degree, licensure, and specialty credentials all shape which category fits.

Verify your degree meets PERM requirements
Foreign dental degrees require a credential evaluation confirming U.S. equivalency before PERM can proceed. USCIS and DOL both reference the degree during adjudication, so get a formal evaluation from a recognized agency before applying.
Target DSOs with active sponsorship history
Dental service organizations employ hundreds of associate dentists and file PERM petitions regularly. Filtering by employers with documented labor certification filings gives you a shorter path than cold-applying to independent practices with no sponsorship infrastructure.
Search verified sponsoring employers on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter dentist roles by employers with active EB-2 and EB-3 sponsorship history. This cuts out practices that will redirect you to H-1B visa conversations instead of committing to permanent residency from the start.
Negotiate PERM filing into your offer letter
Ask the employer to confirm PERM sponsorship in writing before you accept. Many dental employers intend to sponsor but delay indefinitely without a written commitment, leaving you in limbo while your temporary status runs down.
Confirm your state license before PERM recruitment begins
DOL's PERM process requires the employer to advertise the role with the minimum requirements you already meet on the filing date. If your state dental license is pending, PERM can't launch until licensure is confirmed and the job posting reflects it.
Check prevailing wage early using OFLC Wage Search
DOL sets the prevailing wage for your specific SOC code and geographic area before PERM recruitment starts. Pulling this figure upfront lets you verify the offered salary qualifies and avoids a prevailing wage redetermination that restarts the process.
Green Card Dentist: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a dentist role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Dentist positions typically qualify under EB-2 if the employer requires a master's level credential or you hold a specialty degree such as a DMD or DDS with advanced training. General dentist roles with a standard DDS or DMD qualification usually fall under EB-3 as a professional. The employer's minimum requirements, documented in the PERM filing, determine which category applies.
How does PERM green card sponsorship differ from H-1B sponsorship for dentists?
PERM leads to permanent residency with no annual cap concerns at the EB-3 level for most countries, whereas H-1B is a temporary status capped at 65,000 slots annually and subject to the lottery. PERM requires the employer to complete a formal DOL recruitment process and prove no qualified U.S. workers are available, which adds several months to the timeline but results in lawful permanent residency rather than a visa that must be renewed.
How long does the EB-3 green card process take for a foreign-trained dentist?
The PERM labor certification stage alone averages 12 to 18 months at DOL, depending on whether an audit is triggered. After PERM approval, the employer files an I-140 petition with USCIS, which adds several more months. For most countries other than India and China, EB-3 priority dates are current, so adjustment of status can be filed concurrently with or shortly after the I-140.
Which types of dental employers sponsor green cards most often?
Dental service organizations, community health centers, Federally Qualified Health Centers, and hospital-based dental departments file PERM petitions more consistently than single-provider private practices. These employers have HR infrastructure to manage the recruitment documentation DOL requires. Use Migrate Mate to identify which specific employers in your target state have an active EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship track record for dentist roles.
Can a dentist start the PERM process while working on a temporary visa?
Yes. PERM sponsorship is employer-initiated and does not affect your current nonimmigrant status. You can work on an H-1B or TN visa while your employer files PERM and the I-140 petition proceeds. Once a visa number is available, you file for adjustment of status. Maintaining valid status throughout is your responsibility, so track your authorized period carefully alongside the green card timeline.
